Memorial Service for Dontaze Storey and Other Victims of Police Murder Set For January 10th

Los Angeles – Family and friends of Dontaze Storey, a 29-year old unarmed Black man who was killed by LAPD officers Oliver Malabuya and Daniel Bunch on Veterans’ Day, will have a memorial service on Saturday, January 10th, at KRST Unity Center (7825 S. Western Ave., Los Angeles). The service will start at 12 pm.

Organizers of the memorial, which include Storey’s family, Coalition for Justice Against Police Murder and Mothers In Action, are also inviting other families of police murder victims to attend and provide testimony. Elected officials and community leaders are being invited also.

“While we are grieving about Dontaze, we know he was not the first unarmed victim of police murder” stated Atun Re Baker, Dontaze’s uncle. “Hopefully, we can work to make sure this doesn’t happen ever again.”

The officers that killed Dontaze Storey were from the Rampart Division, which has been involved in several incidents of murder and malpractice over the years. Some of the examples include:

1. 1996 – Rampart Officer Perez shot 19 year old Javier Ovando in chest and head while he was handcuffed. Mr. Ovando became paralyzed

2. 1997 – Testimony revealed that Rampart officers were involved in the shooting death of Christopher “Notorious BIG” Wallace

3. 1998 – Rampart CRASH officer Brian Hewitt beat a handcuffed Ishmael Jimenez – making the victim vomit blood. Hewitt was later fired

4. 2007 – Rampart officers shot and kill 24 year old Matthew Powell while he was face down in a fetal position

These albums came out all in 1988. Great music (If you don't own those CD's, pick them up) Nowadays you're lucky to get 3 Hot CD's. Honestly how many great CD's came out this year? Maybe 5. Well I hear that. I say put it out yo. I'd like to build with real Hip Hop heads all over the planet . I had a show in September and this lil kid ( under 23) got on the Mic and did his thing. For those who don't know, "drank" is otherwise known as promethazine-codeine, aka syrup or sizzurp aka barre, aka Texas Tea, aka oil, aka purple stuff, you get the point.

Anyway there was a point in time that ya boy used to go hard on that drank. I was worst then a certain rapper that we all know, and I was doin it before he made it a fashion statement.

My styrofoam cup may aswell had been endorsed my Karl Maulden, cause I neva left home without it. And don't let me fuck around in the midst of my paper chase and leave my cup at yo house. Best believe i'm finna be knockin in jus a few minutes when I go to take that sip and realize yo, I jus left my cup.

I got so many crazy ass drank stories tho I could write a whole chapter alone on them, so it's hard to rank them. First and foremost tho, fo those who don't know the #1 side effect from drank is it make yo azz hella relaxed and drowzy as a muhfucka if u really sippin. You can be awake one moment, then in a matter of minutes or seconds even be out like a light.

When you see a nigga thowed off drank you damn near might mistake them fo a nigga that might be off dat "boy" (heroin). This is mainly because it tends to have u on the nod, that's why it's referred to as leanin.

So because of the effects I found myself in many compromising positions before, some even in public places.

Well now that I have given a lil lesson on "Drank" 101, guess I'll get to the story.

But before I jus open up with the all-time embarrassing drank moments I gotta ease into these stories.

Most drank sippers would agree that fine cannabis and drank go hand in hand. The analogy I always explained to people is that if the cannabis is a burger the drank is like the fries. I can eat either by themselves, but together it makes a tasty lil meal.

So this one evening after a hard day of grindin, i'm at the crib relaxin, cup in one hand blunt in the other. I've been sippin all day, but since I'm jus now gettin to relax for the day the drank effects are really startin to set in.

I can feel the drowsiness settin in. Nonetheless I want to enjoy the high that i'm feelin and continue to sip and smoke til my cup is empty and the blunt is gone. Obviously somewhere in there my brain didn't really process that message, cause it turned the lights out on me without my knowledge.

Next thing i remember was havin an uncomfortable sensation around my crotch area. I finally realize, yo my fuckin brand new flannel pajama bottoms is smokin. Felt like i was reliving a Richard Pryor standup moment, and my joint wanted to turn on the sprinkler system.

Talkin bout a nigga panickin, cause the shit done burned thru the PJ's and my boxers and back out the PJ's. That shit was like a thru and thru bulletwound or somethin. Dunno how the fuck it ain't get the goods luckily it jus bypassed the shit.

Yea man I done scaled back a lot. Mainly cause I had to step away from the streets.

That was the environment I was in so those were my tools feel me. Plus it was my livelihood, so those things were so accessible for me.

One thing I wondered tho was I really gonna be able to stop sippin drank if I had to, cause there is supposed actual physical withdrawls to the codeine. I wondered if I was gonna go thru that, cause I was killin that shit by the pint damn near daily. My potnas had told me how they had had stomach cramps and shit from not havin drank fo a couple days, and shit.

But somehow I jus quit cold turkey. So it let me know how strong the mind is. If you are weak mentally, you can let these substances control you. Even thru my years of chronic smokin I've had to stop on occasions, (by force not by choice) either for a job or for legal reasons. But I was neva one of them cats who had to keep goin to jail fo dirty piss cause they couldn't quit smokin. It's all in the mind.

We proceeded out to this party on foot no less. This was one of them "others" college party's too. So the shit was outside in the backyard at this infamous party house near campus. I think they had a band too. I jus know after I hit some weed at the party, shit got real fucked up.

I was in the same position as you. Sleep in the dirt, urlin and shit. I can remember people askin, "Is he alright, he gonna be o.k.?" All the while, my potna and his roomate kept drinkin and partyin. Then it came time to leave, both these cats had to drag me over a mile back to they dorm room.

That was the second and last time I ever had a St. Ides in my life. And I can drink, but I wouldn't give that shit to my enemy. Somethin in that shit ain't right.

Yo, but check this...

Mine was so bad because at the time I was doing my frat tough and real busy.

I was busy in all kinds of programs on campus. And, I had just stepped outside with a Delta, who happened to be my homegirl from the crib AND my pledge daughter. She brought me outside to get some air, and then left me.

Needless to say, I let it all out by time my boy got me to the crib. But funny thing is when we got to my spot, I told him not to touch me. He was like "niccah, you gotta get out my ride. I'm going back to the club".

I told him he wasn't, because I wasn't moving, and he couldn't drive if I stayed in the car. If he moved I was gonna spit on him...

And apparently I tried to spit at him too...lol...

My 21st was the worst man...I spent all of 1 hr out and about...the rest on my couch in my dorm apt knocked out.

I'm from the west coast born and raised. But lets be real we killed hip hop and made it rap. We brought the guns and gang signs and the dis-respect of women in the game. The drug tales and the pimpin to the game. The east coast had rappers that rapped the streets like Kool G rap and some other cats back in the day but they still laced it in a lyrical fashion. The west put melodic beats and simple flows so it reached the masses. You can see the west coast influence in every region of new generaion rappers. Nas was right hip hop is dead to the masses. Its in peoples hearts and its a way of life so it will never die out completely. But Rap has taken over and is here to stay.

I'm saying:
I agree with you on this. I don't believe hip hop is dead either. Therefore I don't feel Nas could have killed it but I get exactly what you are saying. The statement that Nas made was loaded and to this day folks are still talking about it. I don't even think he could have imagined the impact that saying "hip hop is dead" would make.

I think the problem is that it was Soulja Boy that made the statement & since folks don't respect him they are not trying to listen to anything he has to say. If Russel Simmons would have made the same statement I think it would have been more credible.
