Obama & The Tragic Errors of The Weimar Republic

The post World War I journey of Germany from an empire, which was overthrown, and then a democratic republic, and finally the overthrow of that republic and the emergence and domination of Hitler’s Nazi fascism, is important for us to understand. Because some of the facts of these years still apply to the contemporary United States.


With the withering Depression that had set in in the late 20’s in addition to Germany’s war losses, when the international stock market collapsed (U.S. Wall St.) in 1929, a worldwide Depression of staggering proportions set in. And it is this Depression and the rise and fall of governments in Germany that set the stage for the final takeover by Hitler and the fascists—and finally the beginning of World War II.


Although McCain’s adviser Gramm says this is a “mental recession,” unless he’s referring to himself and McCain, today’s depression in the U.S. is not just mental. We shd also factor in the outright theft of the last two elections, the general public bankruptcy of the Republican party, which has been playing and still are playing a “White card”. (The Democrats have not won the majority of White male voters since John Kennedy!)


There is the spreading foreclosure menace of the subprime (fraud ridden) mortgages, now at 6,000 foreclosures a day, the closing of the huge banking mortgage regime, Bear-Sterns. The Bush cabal has agreed to revalue Bear Stearns stocks so that the historically infamous speculator JPMorgan can get a better payday. No aid for the people losing their homes at terrifying rates. Today the government announced it had a new plan to save more banks. If there’s no recession why the plan to save “unthreatened” banks?


Suffice it to say there is a deepening Depression in the U.S., with the nation going from a surplus at the end of the Clinton regime to today’s deficit, much of it caused by the $10-billion-a-month war in Iraq. Even many straight-up backward Americans are convinced of the bold corruption that is the real cause of the war and spiraling gas prices since it is the oil swindlers who hold state power in the U.S. While they talk bad about the “Arabs,” the Bush group is clearly in bed with the Saudis, Arab Emirates, with Dubai now becoming a financial capital to compete with Wall St. and London.


There is no doubt that U.S. forces are losing in the Middle East, just as they got wasted in Viet Nam. The whole ugly scam of removing oil billions from Iraq ( all those contracts for privatization of Iraqi oil went to the big U.S. oilies) based on the 911 episode, the reality of which is still covered with crude lies. But now at scam’s end, with a raging Depression setting in and a war-incurred deficit climbing into the trillions, the stage is set for stunning rightward surge that will perhaps bring street fighting to the U.S. and a final toppling that will make the current shrinking of the dollar, .60 per Euro, seem mild. China already holds U.S. paper, the U.S. is China’s top debtor. IndyMac Bank has just failed in California.


So this is a time much like that in Germany, during the last phase of the Weimar Democratic Republic. Ostensibly a democratic republic, the Depression caused widespread unemployment and great public unrest. And as the curtain began to rise for fascist takeover, (See Brecht’s Berlin) the country, especially the large cities like Berlin, were inundated with pornography, sex crimes, business and political scandals and street fighting, usually between the rising fascists and the communists.


What brought the democratic era to an end was a split between the communists and the social democrats, i.e., the left and the near left and the liberals, which permitted Hitler’s National Socialists in a coalition with the conservatives and nationalists to win the election, even though the left-center coalition had more voters objectively. It was the split which allowed the right to consolidate power.


Recently in the U.S. presidential campaign we have seen two tendencies, the one to vilify and distort Obama from the right, e.g., the recent New Yorker cover described as “satirical” with Obama as a Muslim, his wife as a machine toting militant with an American flag in the fireplace and Osama bin laden in a portrait of honor on the wall. It is objectively a message from McCain, the U.S. Right and the Israelis.


But as well there is the tendency on the presumed left and the social democrats and people styling themselves “progressives” to attack Obama for moving to the right, thereby disappointing some very vocal would-be Obama voters. One woman publicized prominently in the NY Times said now she “hated him.” But as I have said repeatedly this is an imperialist country, with two imperialist parties and a media controlled directly by the 6/10ths of 1 percent of the people that own the land wealth factories, the means of production.


There is no way Obama is even in the presidential race condemning Israel or embracing Cuba. Not to know this is not to know where you are or where you have been for the last 40 years. But even with this clear motion to the center for the purposes of the general election, McCain is still a more backward and a more dangerous candidate and exactly the kind of right leaning militarist that would fit the paradigm for the weak chancellors during Weimar’s last throes that President Hindenburg removed and then appointed Hitler.


It is this split between the left and near left that is being exploited by the right with war and Depression threatening to dump this whole nation on its head, so that Obama will be defeated, McCain elected and with the McCain opening plummet the country headlong into the far, far right. Bush 2 has already obviously set the stage for this. Those elections were stolen out of desperation. The fact that Gore and Kerry were such weak liberals, tied clearly and obviously to the ruling class of this imperialist state allowed that theft to take place with minimum real struggle.


So that is the real struggle unfolding before us. First, to oppose the empty idealism which allows the elitist base to claim to represent the masses but actually have as little to do with them as possible. Allowing seemingly intelligent people to throw their votes away on McKinney or even the racial chauvinist, Nader, thus formalizing a hole in an actual progressive constituency, which allowed Bush 2 to seize power in 2000.


We must also oppose the absolutising of Obama’s progressive stance and,with that, drawing away from him as he gets closer to the general election and tacks toward the middle. This would be the other aspect of the tragic Weimar breakup of the fragile democratic coalition that caused millions to die in fascist purges, concentration camps, or World War 2.


On the other hand, it should be part of our campaign tasks to create a document of planks of progressive character to submit to Obama and publish and popularize this as well, to exert what pressure we can bring to bear on the campaign and publicly for a reversal of Bush’s neo-fascist creations, war, Depression, unemployment, violation of democratic rights, diplomatic isolation from the rest of the world, a general weakening, morally and politically and economically, of the country.

A few years ago U&S published an article entitled  Tear Down The Confederate Flag.  First of all, it is not the state flag, but a confederate battle flag used in the Civil War. It is a flag that represents the armed attempt to maintain chattel slavery in the United States. It has never represented Anything else!

Secondly, it emphasizes the treachery of the reactionary blood hound of imperialism and the slavemaster undead, Andrew Johnson, who vetoed the Freedman's Bureau and removed the occupying Union Troops from the slave-holding states, allowing the counter revolutionary rise of what class and the full rise to power of the ex-overseers and backward Comprador southern petty bourgeoisie who then moved to rule the south under a racial fascism ensuring the post-slavery national oppression, that in essence, continues even today, despite the formal juridical  abolition of petty apartheid and overt segregation and discrimination by the laws that were passed as a result of the Civil Rights Movement.

The swine, Johnson, betrayed his own class of poor whites, who presumed he was to end their peonage, poverty, social degradation. Instead, Johnson, by blocking the redistribution of the great plantations of the south, the "40 acres & a mule," deprive both the ex-slaves and the poor southern whites, who were also held down to near slavery by the chattel slavery plantation system, of land and the chance to become small landowners as in the bourgeois revolutions in Europe.  So that both the Black ex-slaves and poor whites were forced into the hated Sharecropper system, a neo-feudal serfdom, tying the masses of  the population who worked the land to the vicious super exploitation of the big landlords and banks through usury, fraud,  denial of rights and  education and outright theft.

Johnson became an outright tool of the new owners of the south, the rising Wall St. monopoly capitalists, allowing the  Confederate states to re-enter the Union without the re-swearing of  allegiance to the Federal government, which Lincoln had insisted upon. These are the conditions for the Confederate Battle Flag being allowed to remain, to signify the betrayal of Black People and poor southern whites, enforced "legally" by the so called "Black Codes" that themselves were unconstitutional because they violated the 13th, 14th and 15th amendments to the Constitution.

This re-imposition of racial neo-slavery on the south was called by this  empowered  southern bourgeois and petty bourgeois Comprador US proto-Nazi class, "The Redemption of The South".  It is a bitter irony that these "Black Codes" were the models for Hitler's later racial anti-Jewish laws. The Ku Klux Klan enforced this proto-fascist system with continuous murder, violence and intimidation. The Klans were the models for the Nazi storm troopers.  (See The Economics of Barbarism, Kucynski and Witt.)  Just imagine if some crypto-neo-Nazis in local or national government tried to fly the Nazi flag over U.S. government buildings. But who knows?  Buchanan, behind his last pro-Nazi book, might just try!

The Emancipation Proclamation states clearly that as of Jan 1, 1863 the only relationship the ex-slaves have is to the federal government, not to the Confederate states (which the flying of the battle flag of the Confederacy screams they still do!). This is why in the Civil Rights movement the Federal government again and again had to intervene to obtain any justice for Black people. The Rodney King case in LA a few years ago once again confirmed the continued and critical importance of this relationship; the police who had beaten King and who were shown on videotape doing it every hour were still acquitted.  So, once again, the federal government had to intervene. This will probably happen once more in the Amadou Diallo case, which was moved to Albany to enable the cops to escape conviction.

Bush2 and McCain saying "leave it to the state" of South Carolina raises once more the continuous attempt, not only by openly racist elements, but by the Republicans and many Democrats alike (including Bill Clinton, viz. his Welfare bill, for instance) to impose so-called "STATES RIGHTS" in the same fashion, but with different rhetoric, as Governor Wallace of Alabama or Ross Barnett of Mississippi or the infamous White Citizens Councils, during the Civil Rights Movement.

The democratic presidential candidates must speak on this issue and call clearly for the removal of this hated symbol of slavery. Particularly, Al Gore if he wants to be a champion of the oppressed and an enemy of racism and of all forms of racial, i.e., national oppression.  They must shout a loud and resonant "TEAR IT DOWN!” if the great majority of democratic minded people is to have any faith in them.

The NAACP should lead a class action suit, based on violation of the 13th, 14th and 15th amendments, passed by congress as the legal enforcement for the Emancipation Proclamation.  If the flag of an armed enemy of the U.S. is allowed to fly over government buildings, then it implies that slavery, or at least the threat of slavery, is sanctioned by that government and can still legally exist.

In the last sense, this open intimidation by forces long ago ruled enemies of the United States so forcefully counter the laws and the Constitution of the country.  That they would make war on the United States and its people is not only in essence an act of Sedition, but also an assault by intimidation and a form of  "fighting words!"

The flying of the Confederate flag, which openly opposes the equality before the law called for by the 14th amendment, makes the act of SELF-DEFENSE (which Lincoln urged the newly freed slaves to do to protect their freedom) completely Legal.

Further, the historic fact of Chattel Slavery, makes the Confederate Flag an object of Mental Anxiety, certainly for Black People, and as such is a form of unlawful assault, the same as "Nigger" is one term generally construed  to fit within the definition of "Fighting Words."  Provocation that makes Self-Defense constitutionally within a citizen's rights. (Certainly, we must begin by demanding that any of the programs in the public media eliminate portrayal of the Confederate Flag as some vapid comic object, such as in The Dukes of Hazzard &c!)

This controversy also opens the door for a campaign by the Afro-American people as well as all those historically affected in "The Black Belt" by Chattel Slavery, e.g., poor whites, the native peoples and other affected and democratic minded persons, for REPARATIONS. The assault on the Confederate Flag should be the opening bombardment for this clearly Revolutionary Democratic campaign.  ##

7-year-old girl hit by shots fired into L.A. home

Gunshots fired tonight from a passing van at a South Los Angeles home hit a 7-year-old girl inside, police said. She was the second child in recent weeks to be wounded by bullets fired into a home in neighborhoods south of downtown.

Tuesday's attack occurred about 7:30 p.m. in the 300 block of 47th Street, LAPD Officer Jason Lee said. One or more Latino males were in the light-colored vehicle as it drove by the home and gunfire erupted, he said.

The girl was hit once in the chest and once in the arm, Lee said, and is reported in serious but stable  condition at a local hospital. The shooting maybe gang-related, but investigators are considering all possibilities, he said.

On Jan. 31, a 6-year-old girl was shot in the back when a dozen rounds were sprayed at her grandfather's home on East 22nd Street. The girl was hospitalized in stable condition. Updated details on her condition and the investigation were not immediately available.

i am in nj and i work for the government... we've been informed that our governor following california and giving us madantory furlough for one day each in may and june...

i think this is going to be a trend in state infrastructure, just warning others that it is critical amongst these politicians playing with us, the government (that's what we are right?)...

im having a hard time identifiying with my collegues about losing one day pay twice in two months as opposed to california laying of 20K... i have been in my career for 13 years now and am much to young to even consider retiring...

i do have it...that's why i say i handed him the lic, reg and (chl) concealed handgun license...you have to give them the permit if pulled over along with the requested docs

Anyhow there’s a temp here, he’s been here for 4wks, good guy so it seemed. Now I’m a sensitive person so if you tell me you having some issues and need to leave 1 time, I’ll let you. Can I tell you guys this fool has left 3xs as of yesterday!!!! And I just found out he’s been leaving cause of drama with his fiancé!!!!

the lady and I went out to catch a movie the other day, right?  We are in the mall, bout to leave, and the three point contest is on one of the tv's.  I stop to catch it real quick.  She keeps walking.  I tell her to hold up.  She's like "come on...I don't feel like sitting here watching this"...I tell her "hold up".  She catches an attitude.

I just gave her a strong look like "for real, you need to chill out.  We leaving in like 1 minute and you actin' out"...

She just looked at me...slightly pissed.

Then, when we left, I told her we weren't going to DSW to look at these shoes she wanted me to get her.

now, I know it sounds like I'm talking down to her, or talking to her like she's a child.  Believe me, that wasn't the case...

But I also wasn't about to let her just "control" everything.  I pick my battles, but I do it purposely, because believe it or not, a woman does NOT want a man who won't "put her in her place" sometime.  If a man lets a woman walk all over him, then she'll lose respect for him.  And that works vice-versa as well.

She called me today at work, and was telling me how she told one of her male co-workers that same story.  He told her she probably walks all over her dude (because of how she be with the dudes at her job...lol), and she said "nah, he kinda keeps me correct...and I admire that"...

Yeah, she admired it...

But I already knew this...I just purposely "pick" my battles carefully...

that dude at your job...he really needs to learn how to get his point across to his woman on HIS time, not COMPANY time.

And his wife....she's retarded, because you don't play with a man's job (especially TEMP WORK!) in this economy...

Sit him down and tell him to take care of that ish on his time or he's gonna be temporarily looking for new work!

My son is 10 and a very intelligent bright lil dude. Loves to read. Loves to read about history. Whether its black history, music, politics, movies etc etc. His class takes weekly or bi weekly trips to his schools library.  Of course since Barack got in office, he's been heavy into the history of the US Presidents.

Yesterday he came home with a book about all the US Presidents. Had shit as far as their terms, major things they did while in office etc etc. OF COURSE, the book aint going to point out all the foul shit some of these presidents did back in the day.

My question to all is, how should I approach my son and school him on the REAL. The real meaning illuminati, hidden/stolen african/egyptian history, why they killed JFK, Bush(some of which he already actually knows about suprisingly) etc. etc. Basically all the shit we wrap about here on AHH.

I aint trying to have him hate America or nothing like that but more so I just want him to be aware of REAL shit not half truths. I feel like its my job as a father to keep it all the way real and not sell him no bullshit dream. I think he ready and will handle it well but I wanna make sure I do it the right way.

thing with all these kids, nephews & nieces comin up.

I look back at how my Mum did it. Spoon fulla sugar
and all that jazz? My introduction to real knowledge
came via the Greek & Roman Myths and Legends....

As a lil kid my Mum gave me those kinda books to
read when I was grounded, which was ALOT - and I
had a book by Patrick Moore (real cool dude) and his
books had a selection of the myths and then a couple
pages of the characters constellations in the sky - so
I'd be in my room, grounded, lookng out the window
at the Stars, Zodiacs, Planets, all that.

My Mum knew what She was doing :-)

ALL of those Greek Myths have Kemet/Ethiopian
origins, & alot of Mythology Books don't edit that out

Like when Perseus killed Medusa to show her head to
the Sea Monster -he was saving an Ethiopian Princess,
and in the Myth it shows her parents were the rulers
of the strongest nation on Earth. Lil things like that.

So when i got older and learned bout Plato and dem I
already had healthy skepticism bout their "knowledge"

Maybe start with the Romans and how they stole
their culture from the Greeks (Zeus/Jupiter etc)

After serving roughly eight years of a ten year sentence for his role in the infamous Club New York shooting on December 27, 1999, Shyne looks to be finally on the verge of release. The attorney for the former Bad Boy Records artist spoke to HipHopDX earlier today to clarify the details of his client’s pending parole, as well as provide some insight into Shyne Po’s post-prison plans.

“We’re hoping for April,” said Shyne’s legal counsel, Oscar Michelen, of when he is anticipating his client’s release from the Woodbourne Correctional Facility in Sullivan County, New York. “[But] they don’t normally let you know [the exact release date] until right before it happens.”

Mr. Michelen went on to clarify that, “A parole hearing is scheduled for June. And if they don’t release him prior to that date, then he gets his parole hearing. But they can advance that depending on the situation at the jail at that particular time. And we’re under the belief that it might very well be advanced [to April].”

Shyne’s stellar personal conduct while incarcerated should contribute to his likely parole this spring.

“He’s been an exemplirary inmate,” Michelen told DX of the now 30-year-old Shyne (who legally changed his name in 2006 from Jamal Barrow to Moses Michael Leviy upon converting to Judaism). “He’s had no problems, been very positive. As a matter of fact, myself and another person were scheduled to go up [on] the 26th of February [to see him]. There’s a dinner in honor of African-American History Month, and so Moses [is] participating in that. And he’s also coordinating, getting some speakers to talk about how things have affected the criminal justice system in the last few years, [and] what we think the affect of the new presidency will be on issues affecting minorities. So he’s always been involved in many positive things at the jail and has never had a problem at all whatsoever. So, he’d be the perfect candidate for [parole]. The only knock against him was that he was convicted of a crime that’s considered a violent crime.”

Shyne was charged and subsequently convicted in March 2001 of four charges—including first degree assault—for allegedly firing multiple shots into the crowded Club New York (and striking three people) after a fellow patron named Michael “Scar” Allen approached Sean “Diddy” Combs, Diddy’s then girlfriend actress/singer Jennifer Lopez, Shyne and their additional entourage and taunted the Bad Boy CEO by throwing money at him.

Diddy was acquitted of all criminal charges for his alleged role in the melee that night. But a subsequent civil lawsuit was filed against both the Bad Boy founder and his then artist by Natania Reuben, who was shot in the face during the incident and is now seeking a $130 million dollar settlement [click to read].

“The matter is still pending in court and we’re awaiting a trial date,” revealed Mr. Michelen, who also represents Shyne in this civil case in addition to providing the rapper’s criminal defense. “Both Mr. Combs and Shyne are being sued; they’re [both] defendants. I’d rather not comment on Mr. Combs’ aspect of it. I can comment on my client. He’s got his own lawyer. But [Shyne] is still a defendant in the lawsuit. There are going to be motions to dismiss. And I guess a judge will ultimately determine whether it goes to trial or not.”

Mr. Michelen did not wish to reveal when asked by DX whether or not Shyne had been deposed in the civil suit yet. Shyne’s testimony was reported to have taken place last year following Diddy’s deposition in March of ’08—marking the first time Shyne would have gone on record (he did not testify during his criminal proceedings in 2001) about the events that took place at Club New York and whether he was or was not acting in defense or under the order of his then label boss, Diddy (Shyne’s then trial attorney claimed that a person in Allen’s entourage shot first) when he fired into the club. Shyne will likely remain on parole for nearly two years following his release, until the maximum expiration date of his sentence on March 12, 2011. Once the aforementioned civil proceeding against him is adjudicated he should be free of any legal entanglements for the first time in more than a decade.

And according to his attorney, the Belize-born/Brooklyn-raised unacknowledged son of Belizean Prime Minister Dean Barrow [click to read] who went on to gold success as a rapper (first noted for his uncanny vocal similarities to The Notorious B.I.G.) is eager to resume his life free of the criminal justice system.

“I [can] only speak as his lawyer and his friend,” began Mr. Michelen, “but I know he’s anxious to get back into the recording industry. He’s got a lot to say. And people are anxious to hear it.”

“He’s a very spiritual person in general, very committed [to his faith],” he continued. “And of course he wants to see his family. He wants to be able to make decisions for himself for the first time in years. He’s a bright man. He’s still got a lot of things to say. And I think he’s going to try to make the most positive impact out of this very negative experience that he possibly can. And if anybody can do it, he can. He’s a tremendous person. He really is so much more than just a musical artist. And I think he’s gonna be a force.”
