Great list, Shawna! Probably the best one yet (or the one that is closest to mine - which was a big surprise). It sounds to me as if you favor lyricists ... G Rap, Rakim, Ras, KRS, Black Thought and Lauryn are all heavy lyricists!

I don't even listen to her, but I like the originality of her list.

Now on some real real? I don't know if I feel all that talk about Gucci and/or Shawty...both them mo'fuckers garbage to me. You gotta have more to talk about than the usual car, hood, drugs, hos, rims, houses etc. Again, most of those songs have some nice beats you can jam to when you at a club or some shit, but when I'm just chilling at the lab or driving around I gotta stay on that lyrical shit. Some Talib Kweli, Cage, Copywrite, Pharoah Monch, Sean Price, MF Doom, Immortal, Jedi Mind, Elzhi, and Phat Kat type shit. Don't get it twisted, I jam my down south shit...I'm from Houston, but when you appreciate lyricism, you definitely aren't listening to Paul Wall, Mike Jones or Flip...at least not current shit.

I would separate them from entertainers trying to make money for their own glorification and lyricist, artists who through that specific medium try to reach out to society in regards to everyday struggles in our nation and around the world. In some way educate minorities and try to open their eyes. Some artists actually mature, and you can see that through their music...TI. That's my two cents...

Decent list. All of her picks are great lyricists. But only a few can be considered as the greatest of all time. Still isn't a bad list though.

She's not very lyrical so I'm really surprised with her picks cause you can't tell that any of her picks had any influence on her music.

Thats a true B-Girl list! I loves it! Wouldnt be my choices because I'm like 10 years younger than her and alot of the 80's rappers, although Ive heard them, I feel like sometimes no matter how much you study the past you have to be in that moment. I doubt if 10 years from now all the kids that werent old enough to witness and take in Barack Obama winning the presidency will youtube it and cry like we all did when that moment happened. Like I see the footage of Kennedy getting his head blown off, King laid out on the balcony, and Malcolm X being rushed out on the strecher and it moves me but it doesnt hit me like it did the people who was there and the people that witness it at that time. So in saying all that, I respect her list because she stayed true to her generation.
