elzhi had the illest album, 2 albums if you include "europass" which was a little different than the preface

royce re solidified hisself to the few dobters he had left..

cant count lupe since he didnt drop this year... kanye is allhippopart.com this year

and commons albums is way better then what people assume, it aint the best but its def not as bad as people are saying.

black milk is probly all around mvp he had a better year, quality wise when combining both rappin and producing talents..

this is a no brainer. kanye hands down. although common does come in second, the last year has belonged to mr. west. even though there are a lot of people who don't like him, it does not take away from the fact that Ye is one of the best to do it. Heartless is a banger and I was very impressed with his new album. I don't understand who decides what is or is not hip hop, but I have been hip hop since Dana Dane (true fans knw who this is) and Kanye definitely is hip hop.

Props to Ye for getting his this year. I think Common's new album was awesome. The only people who I think will disagree are the ones who don't know good music outside of hip-hop. U.M.C. Was a very musical album that boasted much musical creativity from Com and the likes of Pharrel.
Lupe was definitely another heavy hitter this year. If our beloved hip-hop had more of him and others like him on the radio and in the mainstream while remaining true to themselves, this incredible music wouldn't be nearly as close to extinction as it is.
I'm ready for '09. Hopefully things will change drastically for the better of Hip-Hop as the new year is ushered in.

To each is own, but Common's album sucked to me man and I'm a common fan. When he makes albums like "Eclectic Circus" or whatever the fuck it was and "Universal Mind Control" it tarnishes his top MC's status for me.

Lyrically Common can match up there with Jay-Z, Nas, Big, Ra and some of the other GOATS at times, but when he makes bullshit songs, his bullshit songs are worse than the GOATS, so are his Bullshit albums. He has to many "Nastradamus" albums to me. Even on some of the GOATS horrible albums there is a gem on it. Not with Common. And even "Finding Forever" was light weight trash especially following "Be"

But once again "To each is own".
