I agree with his list, minus the Lord Tariq. Havent heard enough of him to establish him being in the top 5. I feel like this list represents the generation X'ers ears. In My Lifetime Vol. 1 was a classic, a lot of people shitted on that album, but Jay had some classic jams on that album, except the one with P.Shitty......but overall.....a good album

No point in doing Top 5's anymore...for real...

I read some of these and laugh really hard...

Then I look at some and say, okay, I can respect that, and I can tell what era they came up in. This sh*t is like sports...there is no way to compare "eras" man. Like, 80's vs. 90's vs. now....just can't.

Like, in my mind, I don't see how there can even be a top 5 without Big, Jay, and Pac, but that's the era I've grown in. Meanwhile, cats who were born in the 70's probably relate to KRS, Kool G, Big Daddy, etc....it's all about era's. It's the reason people nowadays always put Jay, Nas, Em, etc in they top 5...that's what they have grown up on. 5 years from now, you'll have people saying Wayne (some already do). We are a NOW society, so these top 5's shouldn't surprise people...

With that said...

I'm still tryin' to figure out how this dude "murdered" Wayne on Amili. I keep reading and seeing people say that, but I don't see it. I really don't think he's THAT nice...for real. Not knockin' him, but just because you spit so fast that makes people have to rewind to figure out WHAT you said don't make you nice....just means you can rap fast...

On the real, making a Top list is just for us to talk and debate. All of these artists and rappers have made undisputed classic verses, songs, and/or albums at one point in there careers that have touched us in a way.

HOWEVER, being 23, I understand that without the FIRST school (not the Old) KRS-One, Kool G Rap, Big Daddy Kane, N.W.A., D.O.C. EPMD, BDP, LL Cool J, Public Enemy, Eric B & Rakim, Run DMC & Jam Master J, etc...

That without these dudes, they don't inspire the likes of Biggie, Tupac, Big Pun, Nas, Jay-Z, UGK, Outkast, Snoop Dogg, Bone Thugz-N-Harmony, Eminem, Talib Kweli, Mos Def, Common, Pharoah Monch, etc...

And then that doesn't trickle down to Lupe Fiasco, T.I., Ludacris, Lil Wayne, Kanye West, Game, etc. that we have today.

That's why we gotta LOVE where it started, but these dudes went in to build a foundation so that later generations will build on top of, and go higher than they went and inspire others to be better than they were.

When you talk about the greatest of all-time, you have to narrow it down. Are you talking about just lyrics, just flow, just style, just impact or overall (lyrics, flows, style, impact on the game)?

It's tough because then you're stuck with this question. Do you rate the teacher higher for inspiring and teaching the student to be greater? Or do you rate the student higher for surpassing the teacher, even though that's what the teacher intended?

That's what will always keep this debate going.
