this was probably the most fair article i've read from this cat

i copped The Recession on tuesday and i think many fans will like this album...its 18 straight songs...no interludes no bullshit skits...just music...Jeezy does touch all subjects on this album...the joint wit Trey Songz is for the ladies but see he don't make it too soft and its not a sell out type of track...this album is solid...i don't think u'll be too dissappointed...his lyrics is on point...if u not a really a fan of Jeezy i think after u hear Hustlers Ambition u'll want to purchase the album...Jeezy don't use the craziest metaphors or simile's but he says some clever shit

if u got two 12's or 15's in the trunk u'll luv this album

overall out of 5 stars i give this a 4

This album is the truth. I've didn't like Jeezy when he first came out but after listening to Thug motivation a few times i found he dropped a classic. The inspiration was less inspiring so to speak, it had moments of greatness but was too sloppy and long, with no real direction. The Recession is not Thug Motivation, but it's very good. Lyrically, Jeezy is Jeezy he surprises on such tracks as "Crazy world", "My President" "Takin it there" and "Circulate" where he either changes his often monotonous flow, his delivery, rhyme pattern, or subject matter. To me he stepped his game up by addressing more than just trapping. The beats are top notch, as the reviewer said many of them sound alike and that can get repetitive but they all bump in the whip. Who dat sounds like he was channeling Thug Motivation, it's one of the hottest tracks on the album. The only tracks i'm not personally messing with are "hustlers ambition" and "Welcome back, where the hooks are just weak and kind of annoying. The guests are all solid or great. We all know about "Put on" w/Ye' but he has a surprising collabo with Anthony Hamilton and Lil Boosie which comes out much better than i would have thought. And the track with Nas is just insane, to me thats the best song on the album. Overall the albums an 8 out of 10 to me great album from an artist who's showing growth, if you can't see that, then you're not listening to the music. Also peep the Jay dedication on the last verse of one of the tracks can't remember the name but it's either "Takin it there" or "Don't do it". Hot album.

People need to stop checking for him to top Thug Motivation 101 b/c that's not going to happen. Thug Motivation was a hood classic. The Recession is a good album and it is a step up from The Inspiration. Like the review said, the 2nd half of the album goes strong. Anthony Hamilton was a good guest appearance and "Everything" is definitely the best track in my opinion. Overall, Jeezy proved that he is the best at what he does (making real street music) and that he has staying power.

I love this Album but Jeezy couldn't replicate the hits on "The Inspiration".

I'm not going to disrespect the man but he can truly make a stand. He's not lyrically blessed but Jeezy can make you eat his lyrics. The dude tries to make you question his relevance in the rap game only to throw all that in your face and say, I don't care. If It's making money, its definitely makes sense.

Cosign. I can't lie. I was not a Jeezy fan from jump. I didn't totally dislike him like...lets say a Gucci Maine, but I wasn't feelin' the cocaine talk for an entire album. I'm grown enough to look past it, but alotta young catz immulate that shit so I couldn't really cosign him. However, my girl bought the 2nd album and I was feelin' it. I actually just went out and bought Thug Motivation 101 last week. I thought it was cool, but I liked the 2nd better...sue me. My girl bought the new joint yesterday and I got it in the mp3 as we speak. So what I've heard is cool. Gotta give it a couple more spins first. Same ole Jeezy, nothing new. The production is repetative at first, but it does change up a bit after Circulate.

im sorry, i only like about 4-5 tracks on it...the beats go hard(accept to many have that damn just blaze retro-alert sound in the beginning of them)..
His subject matter gets a bit boring and he does not provide to much balance on the album...after about 4 songs of "birds, dope, white, hard, benz" i got bored with it...
No, i wasnt looking for "An Inspirtaiton" from this album or lyrical word play(jeezey is about bird play), but i guess its just one of those cds i listen to when im in my "jeezy mood"...or maybe its cuz im older now(joined this board in 03-04 btw) i dunno..
All i can imagine is some lil kid actually worshiping this cd like its the gospel, like we really "in " a recession, (yeah right..go overseas to see REAL problems)..
But for whats it worth, i give it 7 out of 10

he is trying to capitalize off the recent "conscience" efforts of other rappers by focusing on so-called "politics" and "recessions", govt', bush, economy, gas, etc...However, this cd had nothing to do with any of those topics on a CONSTANT BASIS...it was basically "the economy is slow, so i gotta move this snow etc etc blah blah blah"
Nice beats,..but he has no BALANCE in his music...

this album is bangin.. just so you know, you gotta listen to this with real speakers, the laptop stereo or mono joints don't do it justice.

jeezy got an ear for beats, and his delivery is on point. add that to a great voice and a decent flow and this is riding music.

before it came out, i was mad at the title, like WTF does Jeezy know about a damn recession?? does he even know the economic definition?? but then i realized, he knows just about as much as the avg. nigga does about it, niggas just know how it feels. and you get that on the album.

i been hearing this out of everybody's whip for the past week basically.. so props to jeezy. ATL hurtin yall bitches!!

I take my hat off to Jeezy for speaking on matters that affect EVERYBODY and not just more trap music (even tho I still ride to the trap music thats on there lol) Dude has evolved tremendously from his first album, not only as an artist, but as a man...way more than I can say for most of these fuck ass rappers. If you wanna compare this album to LAX...DON'T!!! Maybe I think too hard about hip-hop and shit, but its difficult for me to listen to the Game and appreciate his music without thinking about what a public spectacle and fucking clown he is. Had it been produced by Dre, I woulda copped, but to just hear him embelish about being "hard" and making idle threats,...nah, i'm straight my nig! Get the production out of your head and listen to what Jeezy is saying on better than half of these songs and I guarantee you its waaaay more fulfilling than LAX with its 1,000,000 guest spots. I've had it for about a week now and I'm honestly really impressed with it. His lyrics are really on point this time and he doesn't really talk about too much bullshit. The article was right though, the whole first half of the cd sounds pretty much the same. Best tracks imo are "Hustlaz Ambition", "Circulate", "Word Play" and "Crazy World"

Classic??????????????????? The album just came out yesterday. Some of you cats use that word like you breath. Listen to this joint in 10 years and if YOU still like it then it may be a classic. Not a day or two after the album came out though. That just means you really like the album. I havent heard it yet. Not really a Jeezy fan because I dont relate to what he says. Never flip a bird or cooked anything of the sort. All I do is smoke weed and make music so maybe we link there but then again back to the music I just cant really feel it. Big ups to him though. Its always good to see a black man getting praise for his work.

I agree with you about the promo of the album and that just opitimises the issues I have with this review....too much inconsistency!!
Game album was on point! It had more of a real Hip Hop feel, and the production was on point!
Jeezy's album is the same old - a bit of trunk music and the same ATL beats that have been around for far too long. I feel his swagger but that about it.

All considered, how the hell does this get 8.5 and LAX only get a 6???

Inconsistent with the promo and inconsisten with the reviews!

The Recession is just a bangin' ass album. Some of his beats are a little redundant but other than that the album bangs from track 1 to 18. You don't even have to touch the CD player.

L.A.X. was aight. If your from Cali L.A.X. is the shit. If he didn't have so much shit about Cali or L.A. in the hooks of his songs I would like it better cause I could play it outside the crib. You can't ride through NC bangin' shit about "California ain't a state it's a army".

I'll be honest (And I think we all better be) I've had L.A.X. in my iPod for two or three weeks (Since the day it leaked). To this day, I still haven't heard every track it has to offer. I think I've only played three or four tracks. I simply cannot stand it. Hey, maybe some of you will say I don't know hip-hop. Just to add another thing, Doctors Advocate didn't even make it onto my IPod. I have an 80 G sooo... I won't say space was a problem.

Speaking from the heart, I think The Game just dropped garbage on Doc's Adv.. And in this recent album, he has something but still drops garbage.

By the way, the people who are critisizing Jeezy need to check themselves real quick. How are you going to say that Jeezy spits the same ish while The Game is still dropping the same name, talking about being a blood.. bla bla bla.. You get my drift.

On the other hand, Jeezy is just plain addictive. It's just his whole swagger towards a song. Sure, people TRY to imitate him but as good as they may be, Jeezy still stands out... Jeezy may drop the same ish time and time again but the dude has longivity... Not everybody can say that... Look at 50 Cent commercially. He changes his formula in Curtis and we all know what happened to that.

If the same formula keep working, why change it?

I personally thought it was a decent effort for Jeezy considering he actually tried to discuss other topics but anytime a nigga matures on his work, most people discredit their work. Granted Jeezy ain't the most clever nigga with words but I take it for what it is. I think the downside of this disc would be the production because who can listen to 808 drums 80% of the album? Jeezy is a beast...Thug Motivation was classic it will stand the test of time..soniclly it raised the bar for south music. The Inspiration was underrated. It may have been too commercial for some cats but it was good album. In the Recession Jeezy steps back scans what he needs to bring to the table of the game right now and delivers. Packed w/ anthems, trunk muzik u would xpect from a Jeezy album, and a relevant album concept. The production does get repetitve but thats Jeezy's bread n butter. Do like me put all Jeezy records on one playlist in the iPod and shuffle em. You'll get consistency. Recession gets an XL, 3.5 Mics, 7 outa 10.

Well said. If I had been the one to review Game's album as well I could see the point of comparing reviews, but I didn't. My colleague Tika didn't care for LAX, it happens.

Here at AHH we don't have a set criteria on how to rate albums and thankfully so, as there should not be a rigid system for critiquing a genre that regualrly breaks down barriers artistically.

One thing I have noticed about us as fans is that we think in extremes way too much. An album just can't be good. No, it's either a classic or garbage. That is ridiculous and allots for a lot of the needless arguing back and forth.

This album is solid, and I weighed it agaisnt Jeezy's own catalogue, not what Nas, Banner, Game or any other artist put out. I believe Jeezy can stand on his own merits.

I like the album. Not as good as 101, but ahead of 102. He stepped up his subject matter and showed growth as an artist. Besides some of the songs having a similar "feel" to them, they all did what they were suppossed to do, which is catch your ear and turn up your volume a notch or two.

IMO, the stand out tracks were Everything ft. Anthony Hamilton and Lil Boosie (whom I don't really care for), Jeezy Don't Do It, My President, and Circulate.

I purchased Jezzy's album the other day and it's cool. It's not a classic but it is better then his previous album. One thing that sticks out to me is that Rick Ross has damn near taken his slot. That nigga dressed in black proclaiming to be this big boss when either of these niggas running anything lol,nether less Ross has in my mind taken some of Jezzy's Thunder. I remember when Rick Ross came out a lot of folks compared him to Young. This album just doesn't stand out and other niggas are taking his spot.

Well to be honest, I got sick and tired hearing the same shit from Jeezy, but thought I'm going to give him another try with this album. This shit bumpin' out the muthafuckin frame. The whole CD be riding from 1 to 18 (minus Put On, because I'm personally sick of that damn song). But this shit is the muthafuckin truth. By far the CD of the year, hands down. I like Plies and Wayne but fuck'em both, Plies talk about pussy to much and Wayne is on some commercial bullshit bka. a sellout! T.I. CD is gonna be hella weak, that nigga been on some old fuck boy shit recently, he need to get back to the way he was on Urban Legend or I'm Serious, that nigga is no king, if you wanna talk king, Jeezy is the King of the South!!!! Go get this CD, that real copy this shit is what's crackin!!!

i'm not impressed with this effort from jeezy...it seems that each of his cd's loose a bit...this joint is the same subject matter, same beats, same ad libs...i fux wit jeezy, but he has to step his game up on his next release...i advise those that haven't bought it, save ya paper, the best cuts will probably be the video/radio shit.

This has turned into a Game and Jeezy comparison. In my opinion Game aint even relevent comparison. You cant compare a Gang banger turned rapper to a successful before the rap game hustla. Game personally contradicts himself so much, I cant listen to one of his songs without questioning him or wondering is he is going to change his "opinion" on the next song. But I aint rating Games album, I already did that on his page.

I am, I know and grew up wit hustlas like Jeezy. His depiction of his life interpretation is relevent to the Hustle Game. Also his depiction of America's social and economic status are also on point, I loosely compare him to Jay-Z in that aspect. The tracks dont sound repeated, those who are complaining obviously aint got subs with 1000+ watts in their whip. This is the perfect shit to ride to, it bangs.. For those who hustle or have hustled on a major cake getting level will definately relate.

You know when you listening to somebody who do it for real because of they're word play of events, situations or even phone conversations. Ya know, real hustla talk between hustlas during realistic like events that a nigga with a good imagination couldnt really make up. It cant get no better unless these rap niggas raps could be edited by a hustler with a english degree, (see Rick Ross).

I especially like how Jeezy, with out naming names, showed disgust of those fakers who aint neva touched a pack but rap like they been moving it major. Its niggas out here that can appeciate a rapper actually standing up and saying shit about these rappers who are making money by telling lies about work that they be moving, but in reality, havent moved shit.

Niggas have died and got sent to the FEDs for years while doing this shit, to have the wanna be's spitting about shit that they dont know nutting about. Or these "rappin niggas" that bought a pack AFTER they're record advance, put niggas in their hood on with work, but never touched it, how could they? They were in the studio and on promo tours the whole time. They never really set up licks for bricks over the phone with out being hot with the conversation on the phone and REALLY avoiding the FEDs while still gettin money.

But these "rappin niggas" are all of a sudden are "dope boys". You can hear it all in these niggas raps,, all they got is good imaginations,, its aggravating as hell, but who can a hustla really complain to,, ya know...

Regardless to what people say about this not being Hip Hop, I think is album actually is. He doesnt spend a whole album or even a song trying to convice me that he legit. In stead he spits about issues thats going on in the world around us and thats what Hip Hop was (and is) trully about. As a 30+ successfully retired hustla, this is what I wanna hear about. I cant wait until Blueprint III. But shit,,, I liked Jeezy's first two albums as well. Fuck all these other dry snitchin, hot conversation and fake ass hustle rappers.. Hey, real reconizes real and to each its own. People enjoy listening to and watching what is most like them or what they wish they were.

I liked the "Recession" cd way better than the "Inspiration" cd

Most critics have stated it's the same ol' Jeezy cd. But then when any artist steps out of the box critics don't like the cd. Because its not what they used to hearing from that artist.

I'm a give you 2 facts to prove my opinion.

1. Jeezy's "Inspiration" cd had a lot of different producers. Jeezy even switched up his flow on some songs on "Inspiration". Critics didn't like it because it didn't live up to "Thug Motivation 101". Jeezy goes back to the drawing board and use DJ Toomp to recreate that "Thug Motivation" vibe then critics say there's no diversity in music production in his "Recession" cd.

2. The Game's L.A.X. cd. Not calling out any names (Boss Up, I couldn't resist no homo) But some people arent feeling the Game's L.A.X. and I honestly dont know why. Every song lyrically and musically are on point to me. Is it your typical cd you'd expect from Game. Hell naw at first listen but I give Game credit for L.A.X. because to me showed growth and he proved to me that he can make radio friendly music without losing his edge. Biggie, Nas, Jay-Z, and Tupac had that versatility that's why they are my top 5 adding the Game to that list.

My point...People want artist to switch there style up, then when they do critics don't like the music. Like dey say "Can't please everybody"

The Game's LAX vs. Jeezy's Recession..? That's a tough one. But id give it to Game because his cd has songs for the street, the club, and the radio and it does have more diverse music production that Jeezy's. (I know, I know, Yeah me too. Clipse)

P.S. Is it me or does Jeezy's "Amazing" and "Hustlers Ambition song have the same beat but different hooks. You be the judge.

I finally listened to the entire Jeezy album over the weekend. I think the album was put together well, and a lot of the lyrical content coincides with current state of out nation (fucked up economy). The majority of jeezy's fan base in my neck of the woods don't vote, or don't pay any mind to politics. Hopefully the album get them motivated to get thier voices heard (if they can). I give the album a 8/10

I didn't like Jeezy's music in the past, but this album is an 8/10 to me.

Loving the "Look At Em Fly" track and "What They Want" a lot.

Jeezy is good for what he does, no he aint a lyrical genious and this isn't classic, but I'm feeling this album.

Much better than LAX, which is weak compared to Doctors Advocate IMO.

Ok let me say this..I generally don't like Jeezy at all...Never realy was "put on" to him lol. Most of what i heard was was just some more southern ignorat south rap (not that all of it is dumb just the ones that come out of nowhere to hop on the south bandwagon like Busie/Webb/Joc/whoever, anyways....

This album is crazy!!!!!!
