its great that they are making that area a historical landmark. its quite sad that because of that, value of property in the surrounding area will go up and will drive the cost of living up with it. being that it could turn into a tourist attraction ("come stand in exact same spot where hip hop was born").

Who do ya'll get to write this shit? Excuse me Mr. Richburg but 1520 Sedgwick Ave is not "an important site in the creation of Hip Hop", it is THE site of Hip Hop's creation. Secondly, Mr. DJ Kool Herc is NOT a "rap pioneer". Rap music was not even played at the first Hip Hop parties because the music spawned from the culture of these parties. Therefore, it didn't exist. He is THE founding father of Hip Hop culture. Come on AHH! I know ya'll can do better than this. This event needs to be treated with a little more respect.

it's not the site of creation. you could argue that the park on sedwick and cedar is the point becasue that's where it spilled out and really created the aesthetic. prior to that it was just a back to school party.

Also what other hiphop site did you see cover it?

There's no need to insult the writer. when you see something of importance covered by news you don't see them hopping up and down all over the dick. you see them cover it matter of factly. There is no need for me to email anything to you fam. If it isn't the birthplace of it then you tell me what is homie. Talk to any true schooler and they'll tell you the same. I don't wanna hear no theories on well it could've been here or there. Or you can't give hip hop a specific birthplace. This is actual facts. Stick to the comic books. We talking hip hop. And if this is supposed to be "AllHipHop" I would expect more than a few rambling words from someone that doesn't touch on how significant this is to the culture of Hip Hop as a whole. There should be a long ass essay from Caz or KRS to really emphasize this mementos occasion for the culture (not just music) of hip hop. Now get off the writers dick and go read something shorty.

I am so happy that 1520 sedgwick ave is on its way to becoming a historical landmark. Man, I used live on sedgwick avenue , my building number was 1840.

The writer or whomever made a mistake, 1520 sedgwick avenue is actually on the west side of the Bronx not the South Bronx.
