Philadelphia rapper Beanie Sigel unveiled his brand new collaboration G-Unit CEO 50 Cent today, Friday the 13th (November 13).
50 Cent’s website Thisis50.com posted a snippet of the highly anticipated collaboration track “I Go Off” earlier this week, while the full version debuted on Cosmic Kev’s show on Power 99FM in Philadelphia this morning (November 13).
Beanie Sigel and 50 Cent announced a partnership during a promotional film screening for 50 Cent’s directorial debut, Before I Self Destruct.
The new track “I Go Off” is the latest chapter in 50 Cent and Beanie Sigel’s ongoing war of words with rapper Jay-Z.
While Sigel doesn’t mention Jay-Z by name on his verse, 50 Cent takes the Roc’s CEO head on at the end of the verse.
“You changed man. You let the money change you Jay..you’s a ‘pass the Grey Poupon’ n***a. N***a feed the wolves or the wolves eat you. Eat your ass alive."
Tensions have existed between Jay-Z and 50 Cent, who has taken several shots at Jay-Z in interview over the past month, in addition to poking fun at him in his video “Flight 187.”
Beanie Sigel’s issues with Jay-Z are the result of the fallout caused by the break up of Hip-Hop label Roc-A-Fella Records, which at one point featured Philly rappers like Freeway, Chris and Neef, Oshino and Sparks and Peedi Crakk.
On the track “What You Talkin Bout (I Ain't Your Average Cat)," Sigel accused Jay-Z of underpaying Roc-A-Fella’s top artists, in addition to abandoning him and acts that were signed to the label.
Jay-Z replied to Sigel‘s diss record during a Canadian press conference with larueduhiphop.com.
“What people choose to do when they obtain that type of success, at some point you gotta look in the mirror and look at yourself,” Jay stated. “Beanie Sigel had a record deal, a record label and a clothing line…and never went platinum. Ever. I don’t know in the history of rap has anyone done so much with so little. So, I don’t know what more can you do for a person at that point. A record deal – that’s normal. A record label and a clothing line. If that’s not pushing the person…s**t.”
Sigel denied Jay-Z’s implication that Roc-A-Fella provided him with anything other than a record deal.
“It’s not like you helped me attain all this wealth and gave me the two Bentleys. You didn’t give me a record label,” Sigel told Mikey Dread and Uncle O during a screening in Philadelphia for 50 Cent's film Before I Self Destruct.
“It only cost a couple hundred dollars to search the name ‘State Property Records,’ nobody owned it; I think I paid another couple hundred dollars and I patented the LLC,” Sigel retorted. “So my record label only cost me $750, to say on a piece of paper that I own State Property Records, LLC. I did that on my own, you didn’t give me that. And what artists was on that label?”
50 Cent’s new album Before I Self Destruct is due in stores on November 17.
Beanie Sigel’s status as an official G-Unit artist could not be confirmed at press time.
