Rap star LL Cool J is one of 12 nominees that could be inducted into the prestigious Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

LL's name is included on a shortlist of artists that includes acts like Kiss, Red Hot Chili Peppers, The Chantels, Donna Summer, Jimmy Cliff, Laura Nyro and others.

"Words can't express the gratitude I feel right now I'm truly thankful," LL Cool J told AllHipHop.com. "I stand on the shoulders of those who came before me and I share the honor of this nomination with all those who helped me along the way."

Ballots will be sent to over 500 voters, who will determine which five of the 12 groups will be inducted into The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2010.

To be eligible, an artist or group must have released its first single or album at least 25 years prior to the year of the nomination.

In 1984, LL Cool J released his first single "I Need A Beat," which was produced by Rick Rubin and T-La Rock.

He dropped his classic debut album Radio one year later for Rick Rubin and Russell Simmons' seminal label, Def Jam.

The album contained several rap classics, including "Rock The Bells" and "I Can’t Live Without My Radio."

LL has released 12 full-length albums since his debut and has sold over 20 millions of records worldwide, landing hits with songs like "I'm Bad," "I Need Love," "Jinglin' Baby," "Around the Way Girl," "Head Sprung," "I Can Love You Better" and others.

In addition to transitioning into a successful Hollywood actor with his own sitcom (In The House), LL continues to release hit records.

LL just dropped the track "NCIS: No Crew is Superior" in honor of his new starring role in the series NCIS: L.A.

Artists that are inducted into the famed monument to pop music are featured in the Museum's Hall of Fame exhibit, which includes a computerized jukebox of all of the inductees works that includes etched-glass signatures of each group member.

The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame's 25th Annual Induction Ceremony is slated to take place March 15 at the Waldorf Astoria in New York.

LL Cool J made his debut on NCIS: Los Angeles last night, to an audience of 18 million viewers, giving CBS its largest premiere week since 1993.

Somebody like Russell Simmons or some other person with power in hip hop, need to make the Hip Hop Hall of Fame. We need to honor our own artist and stop depending on other's to do it. It's possible that LL might not get in, considering the people he up against.  Kiss, Red Hot Chili Peppers, The Chantels, Donna Summer, Jimmy Cliff, Laura Nyro and others. These people is Legends in their genre of Music. But hopefully he get in.........i reiterate  Hip Hop Hall Of Fame is needed.

My vote goes to Kiss primarily. Hate if you want... also Iggy and the Stooges have been fucked over for 10 years running now by my count.

Followed by ABBA who should've been there a long time ago.

    Followed by RHCP.

I'll throw down my 5th vote for LL though.

I agree that we need a Hip Hop hall of fame but I don't beleive we are ready to have one that would have integrity. Until we as Hip Hop heads control what is really called Hip Hop and can hold our own in the media world like the Source used to do before 1998, then a Hip Hop Hall of Fame would just be hijacked by the money men and Political Correctness brigade. And real Hip Hoppers would be viewing it as we view the MTV & BET awards.

On the real though LL deserves that recognition. He represents Hip Hop to the fullest but don't get his props b'cos he's a ladies man. If he doesn't get in this year, he'll get in within five years.

Yeah i agree, that the Hip Hop Hall Of Fame should be in New York, since that's where hip hop originated. I'm from the South and i have  no problem with that, however it's a lot of regionlist in here from the North and South, I know some Southerners in here will say it shouldn't be, but it should be in the Mecca of Hip Hop, NYC.
Hip Hop is to powerful and influential, not to have a Hall Of Fame.

I see what you saying, but it's a must that we have our own Hall Of Fame. We have to many Pioneers and Legends that need to be honored by the Hip Hop Community. It's going to always be Politics in everything, that's to be expected. That's where people like Russell Simmons need to come in at. It need to be overlooked by someone like that or it should be a committee of well Respected and Legendary MC's. Also they need to induct MC's not Rappers into the Hall Of Fame.
