Jay-Z Bringing 'Roc Pop Shop' To New York

By Ismael AbduSalaam

Today (April 3), Jay-Z’s Rocawear’s mobile “Roc Pop Shop” store will return to New York City for a special four day engagement.

Developed by David Ashen of D-ASH design, the Roc Pop Shop is a 50-foot long trailer that expands to 1000 square feet when opened.

Doubling as a “mobile lounge,” Jay-Z envisioned the vehicle to represent his lifestyle experiences, and serve to keep the premium Rocawear line visible at Jay-Z concerts and events.

The retail store on wheels specializes in offering exclusive, limited edition products and Rocawear styles at “recession proof pricing.”

From April 3-6, the Roc Pop Shop will be located at Gansevoort Square, located next to Manhattan’s Gansevoort Hotel on 18 9th Ave.

On Monday April 6, the tour finishes in Jay’s native Brooklyn at Flatbush and 6th Avenue, located across from Atlantic Yard.

At press time, Jay-Z is continuing work on his much anticipated 11th studio album Blueprint 3, now tentatively set for release in September.

Key Words: "hip-hop movement and early 80's"

No Offense, I respect your Opinion, just don't agree with it.

Hispanics been part of the Hip-Hop movement since day 1. So do you give them a pass if they call you the N-word or use it  in your presence?

Does your thought process, mentality, way of life remain the same at age 35-38 as it was when you were 10 -13yrs old in the early 80's?

I'm just asking!

1. Im Hispanic & by no means do i use the word in any degrading form!

I appreciate the fact you respect my opinion, as i respect yours.... i have this same discussion very often cuz i will not stop using the word & don't feel like i should.

What i meant was that, that's what i grew up around.

Im Hip Hop, im not a thug or a killa or a racist....but i just don't understand why people take it offensively even when it wasn't said in a bad way. I have a child on the way that will be half black so its not like im degrading black people but when i say "waddup my nigga", it shouldn't be taken negatively.

I'm 33yrs old and in no way do i act or do the things i did when i grew up a knucklehead in the Brooklyn streets but thats not to say i don't use some of the same old terminology.

I respect peoples feelings so i do fully get when people take it the wrong way but if its not said negatively, just chill....homie
Savy_Da_Boss just asked a question, i don't think he meant any harm in any way, but that's just me.

Nuff Said Bro:  Our "Eyes" see differently! Our Cultures are different!

There nothing you can say that will justify your use of  the N-Word

Matter of Fact, your continued use of the word tells me that you haven't been properly checked on it.

And the defiant stand that you have taken, tells me that you are more than willing to take that chance of suffering bodily harm for your continued use of it.

We all have options, choose yours wisely!

Congrats on the little one!

In the hip hop movement of the early 80's, MC's rarely used that word so that not's true. The N- word was used more frequently in the early 90's in the 2nd generation of Hip Hop. I'm 40 years old and a true fan of this culture when people couldn't afford SL-1200's and had to buy SL-90's learning how to DJ. I understand everyone will not agree with me but that word has crippled the black race for over 400 years and we still allow it to be free flowing in our culture.

One last note towards  ANACOSTIA:

I appreciate your non-ignorance approach on this matter, i take it as a mature adult discussion, not an argument.

Like i mentioned earlier, i've had numerous discussions with educated black peeps & i fully understand ya stand on this also. I do take it personal if i hear some white folks using it in a degrading manner, so yes i know it still offends people. My main approach at this, was that it shouldn't be always taken wrongly but like you said we all have different opinions & views & like i stand defiantly at my continued use, you stand very strong against people using it & i respect that.

Thanks for discussion! I appreciate your kind words too!

HOT97 SAYS:Okay you have all the right to say what you want...However in the fashion world its not about gay or straight..Its about whats in style and even though half of you dudes  act like its not something that you wear..I have to say that every dude is showing there ass crack with some tight ass jeans on...

All rappers do it and there fans follow...

Now for ROCAWEAR they should be on it because Skinny Jeans are in....

That whole skinny jeans phenomenon started as a rebellion to how a lot of niggas was rocking the 15x too big white tee style that was big around 03-04.  Like most fashion styles, smedium skinny fitting clothes started as the way to set them dudes apart from how everybody else was wearing shit back then.  Like they was trying to go classy but too that bitch to a whole. notha. level.  Even worse is that now EVERYBODY is doing that shit so it's just looking like a bunch of fags is running around all of a sudden.  There has to be a middle ground somewhere cause wearing form fitting clothes is damn gay, but that oversized baggy tee shirt and jeans look gots to go too.   You can sag and have loose fitting clothes that's not meant to be worn by obese people, just like you can wear clothes that fit you without being so tight you can see a nigga heart beating!

@ LiL_iLL_WiL and Anacostia

The whole debate over the use of the word N#gg@ is kinda tired in my opinion. There is always some someone talking about how bad it is to use the word. I feel like it depends on the circumstances. Don't get it twisted, we should understand the history of the word and it's role, and significance. And yes, we should probably be more thoughtful of how and when we use it (like in front of company). But bottomline, use of the word N#gg@ is not gonna determine whether or not Black people/African Americans/people of color gain freedom and equality.

So Folks should focus their energy on some real isht like education or access to technology, or access to healthy food, access to health care, or reform of our legal system, a political power base. Damn, this is a HipHop site, right? How come we don't control more of the media outlets that sell our images? The images that are used to define us. Why don't we have more control over how we are depicted in history .... except during February, LMAO! Why are most of the ball players in the NFL and NBA Black, but few of the coaches and owners? Those are real issues! Global issues like debt forgiveness for developing nations,  once again access to technology, etc.

Black people have been using the word for hundreds of years in America. HipHop didn't start it. HipHop just popularized its use of in public. And Black Americans aren't the only people in American history to ever take a "racial slur" and flip it to be a term of endearment. Research it if you don't believe me. We should think about how we use it, no doubt, but this idea that it is always negative or degrading is foolish. Aside from the fact that few things in the universe are absolute, words are simply words, and they can have whatever meaning and significance we chose to give them. That is what is so interesting about language. That's why when you look in the dictionary you see multiple definitions for different words. Lets not limit ourselves under the guise of thoughtfulness.

Oh yeah, in terms of not being "Black" and using the word, some hispanics/Latinos are Black ..... some are White, some are mixed. There is a big difference bewteen David Ortiz(Big Papi) and Andy Garcia or Gloria Estefan. If you don't know who I'm talking about, do a Google search. It's really about who has access to wealth and political power based on skin priviledge in their respective Latin American country. In most of Latin America the people with wealth and political power are lighter skinned. So as someone who is a Black American, I'm not bothered when certain types of hispanic/latinos use the word.

It's so funny, the amount a people on here that's saying skinny jeans are for fags or whatever i'm none of those but when you really look at it that's the way a man's suppose to wear his jeans, you got dudes that their waist size is a 34 and yet the wearing 38 that ain't cool that just look sloppy me personally i wear my size cause i don't like that extra bulk in the crotch area or in the belt loop.

Another thing is jim jones or juelz didn't come up with the idea to wear their jeans fitted people been doing that long before, and plus what they do is just ridiculous, they probably wear a size 34 waist but the go out and get a size 32 and sag it that's just sloppy. it's funny how people see rapper and think the came up with these styles when the actually biting off of some else that's not in the spotlight.
