The nine-year album drought of legendary group EPMD comes to a close in two weeks, as the duo will release their long-awaited 7th album We Mean Business.

The LP comes nearly 10 years after Out of Business (1999), then billed as the duo’s final studio album.

Despite that tagline, the album failed to connect with critics and fans, and to date is the only EPMD album not to go gold.

Cognizant that they’re in an era where profitable record sales are becoming scarce, member Parrish Smith detailed that unlike other old school groups EPMD has grasped the concept of not waiting on labels to create avenues for them.

“Now that we’re in a new era and the game is changed, we realize that it’s different from when we handed in a CD to our first label to being at Def Jam,” Smith explained. “Erick and I created our own vehicle to be able to drop this album. That’s how we came with the title We Mean Business, because we do.”

For the new album, the Brentwood, Long Island natives have enlisted a higher but complimentary list of guests in KRS-One, Raekwon, Havoc, Teddy Riley, Method Man, Devin the Dude, 9th Wonder, Keith Murray, and Redman.

Missing from the new album will be the trademark cutting of DJ Scratch.

Although a member of the group for 20 years, Scratch alleged in an exclusive June interview with AllHipHop.com that his departure was due to a financial/ethical dispute with Erick Sermon.

The first single for the project is the Raekwon assisted “Puttin’ Work In.”

For a limited time, those who pre-order through newburycomics.com will receive an autographed CD booklet.

Orders can be placed at http://www.newburycomics.com/rel/v2_home.php?storenr=103&deptnr=544.

On December 3, the group will host a listening party/art exhibit from 7PM-10PM at the Zune Gallery Space in Los Angeles.

An official album release concert and artwork auction commences on December 8 at the Santos Party House in New York City from 10PM-1AM.

We Mean Business hits stores December 9 via Def Squad/Universal Records.

NIIIICE EPMD is back. LONG ISLAND, STAND UP!!! I am BUYING IT. It does such though that no one I know knows it's coming out. The reason I'm concerned about sales and promotion is cause I want the shit to do well for them. They deserve it.. At least I think they do. I don't have all of their albums, but I got the important ones lol as well as Out of Business and some of each of their solo albums. It should at least be a decent purchase. It's a shame more people don't know about it. Shit, I WOULDN'T know if I wasn't an Allhiphop head.

EPMD is the shit. Deuces.

As a fan im sorry to say this, but EPMD has fell the fuck off. I heard the album and couldnt believe my ears - garbage flow, beats, delivery. The beats are still as a puddle, nowhere near the prime time beats eric got me and others here used to. The only song worth listenning to is YO ft Redman. All the other shit including featurings of Method Man, Raekwon, Havoc, even Keith Murray(whud up) are str8 trash. And im a fan of all of the above. Niggas need to put work in, one

FOR THE RECORD I AM A HIP-HOP HEAD TRUE TO THE HEART BUT.......THE 1ST 2 EPMD ALBUMS WERE CLASSICS BUT ALL OF OUTKAST ALBUMS ARE CLASSICS......FROM SOUTHERNPLAYERLISITC TO SPEAKERBOX/ LOVE BELOW!!! PLUS THEY ARE GREAT MCS IN THERE OWN RIGHT AND THAT MAKES THEM BETTER AS A DUO. I GREW UP IN THE 80S ROCKIN EPMD/HIT SQUAD/DEF SQUAD SO I STILL ROCK EM.......HOWEVER TO CALL THEM THE GREATEST IS A BIT OF AN OVERSTATEMENT.
RECORD SELLS OR NOT........KAST IS IN A CLASS OF THERE OWN. HELL, 3000 IS 1 OF THE BEST TO EVER PICK UP A MIC. EPMD ARE ONLY GOOD TOGEATHER. OUTKAST/DF IS A MOVEMENT........EPMD IS ONLY A GROUP!

ALSO
A TRIBE CALLED QUEST
HELTAH SKELTAH
BLACK STARR(EVENTHOUGH THEY ONLY DID 1 ALBUM SO FAR)
8 BALL AND MJG
REAKWON AND GHOSTFACE(UNOFFICAL DUO)
MOBB DEEP
DEAD PREZ
                   SHOULD BE MENTIONED ALSO!

EPMD > Outkast

For one, Speakerbox/love is NOT a Classic! (neither was the previous LP)  Shit, most of it didn't have any rhymin......  Strictly Business, Unfinished Business , Business As Usual, Business Never Personal are ALL Classics.  EPMD were one of the 1st groups EVER to go gold w/no radio-play.  Eric is one of hip-hop's ALL-Time great producers!!   Not to mention, DJ Scratch is one of the best DJs of ALL-TIME! (88 World Champ)

Sorry yo, but the Greatest Duo Of All-Time wears fisherman hats, NOT fur shorts.

You know what.... when did this trend start?  Not just on this site, but im noticing in everyday convo/barbershop politics~

When did it stop being about the MUSIC??

Harping on gold, platinum, 1st week sales, promotion... no diss, but dudes is starting to sound like gold digging broad~ counting another man's money.  Whats really funny, is with all the "sales" talk, 3/4 of these cats gonna download or 'burn/bootleg' their copy anyway!!

EPMD falls in that category w/Rakim, Scarface, 8Ball & MJG, Dr. Dre & UGK/Bun-B..... I cop their shit strictly off the word of new shit dropping, w/o hearing singles/snippets/seeing videos

These cats out here are lookin for a cosign in order for them to think sh*t is hot enuf to go out and get it themselves.  Hold down your rap legends people.  If the Rolling Stones and Kiss can still sell our arenas, why can't we blindly go and pick up a CD from our forefathers.

You missed the point. they were one of the 1st to go gold w/NO RADIO PLAY (IE : NO -HEY YA HEY YA HEY YA)

Organized Noize is NOT OUTKAST, so why mention them.

PATRICK(SLEEPY) BROWN is fuckin Corny,
RAY, AND RICO WADE never do shit for anyone but Kast.

E's produced for Redman, D'angelo, LL, bahamadia, Blackstreet, Super Cat, Method Man,Xzibit, Luda, etc...

"OH YEA.............FUCK GOLD KAST GOT MULTI PLAT PLAQUES..............PLUS A DIOMOND PLAQUE!!!!!!"

- By that Logic, Nelly & Vanilla Ice > Outkast & EPMD

EPMD by 2nd RD Knockout!!!  Maybe you can listen to one of 3000's love songs for this nap! (& I didn't even abuse the CapsLock button)

Kast is one of the dopest duos ever.   But how could you ever put them above the cats who paved the way for them??
