Las Vegas Police Issue Arrest Warrant For Mos Def

By Tai Saint Louis

The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department has issued a warrant for the arrest of Brooklyn rapper/actor Mos Def yesterday evening (November 5).

Mos, born Dante Smith, was allegedly involved in an altercation with a professional photographer at the most recent MAGIC showing in August.

While attending an event during the fashion trade convention, photographer Volker Corell claims the Be Kind Rewind star assaulted him, allegedly ripping away his camera, and throwing the equipment to the ground before walking away with it.

Corell, who was an official photographer for the MAGIC convention says he suffered a cut on his left hand as a result of the confrontation.

Mos, who made an appearance at Vegas nightclub Prive on October 20, now faces charges of felony robbery and malicious destruction of property.

What kills me is that photograhers invade a person's space, disregard request to stop their intrusive behavior and disrespect a person by continuously taking flicks and get all bitchy when they their equipment broken. His hand cut so 5-0 disregard their harrasment of him and want 2 arrest him. Sounds like racism 2 me

Unfortunately this is gonna be MOS DEF's problem.  The article says the photographer was an OFFICIAL photographer for the event.  That means he was SUPPOSED to be taking pictures...a bit different from the normal Guerilla Paparazzi....

co-sign ripryde..@melchiz...this has nothing to do with race man....white celebs go thru the same thing and have faced similar suits....stop throwing the race card into everything..the problem is they do need to police these paparazzi folks...but again, this guy was an official photog for the event which may add a different spin to it.

I've been a photographer for over 12 years, and I have never had an issue with Mos Def. I always ask him before taking a shot and I don't just snap away like some guys out there. I seen him flip on one dude because he asked him nicely not to take the picture and the guy kept shooting anyway. After that altercation, he stayed and took shots with the fans and for me and another dude from Japan the same night.

A little respect goes a long way and if you act professional, you will be treated professionally.

I mean have some dignity, thats why ya'll end up losing your cameras!! I mean Mos-Def I heard is not the nicest person around, but I still understand him for this one. All up in peoples nosehairs! Same goes for that black photog all up in Lil Wayne's face and caught feelings when Wayne said "That Black Papparazi shit is homo!"

All I got to is LVMPD is the most corrupt police department I have ever crossed.  They have some shady ass rules that diorectly contradict law.  They kill for fun.  And the courts back them.  OJ just got sent up for kidnapping out here for making someone move acrosse a 17 foot hotel room.  Mos Def is facing every single charge and they will throw the book athim and have his ass in the hole for 6 years with 4 year on parole or some shit.  Money status all that means nothing no remorse.  You are some they can use to make an example.. You finna get it.  Suge big dumbass is aboutto take a loss too

celebrities kill me. if pics are taken of them they complain, but i think if there was no one taking pics of them at all they would be more bothered. you wanted to be famous and known and have your pics everywhere but only when you feel like it? i don't think so. and if someone is taking pics of you when you don't want them to just walk away. no matter what most of y'all comments is sayin it is illegal to damage someone's property and any unwanted touching (that means if you even tap someone lightly with a finger and they don't want it) is considered assault (i know he has no assault charge). remember that next time you get heated, unwanted touching=felony assault.

This is ridiculous! Felonies for robbery and assault. What did he rob?   I mean , yeah maybe he should have had a cooler head but do we have to waste everyones time on this?  The guy wasnt paprazzi cuz he was an official photographer for the event. But enuffs enuff with these paparazzi camera people with no lies thinking we actaully care where and when celebrities buy groceries and do laundry. get a life!

I studied publicity in college and the laws for taking photos needs to be restricted more. If a person is part of a public event or is a public figure, you can take pics but it shouldnt allow peopel to snap shots of a publuc figure anywhere. They still have a right to privacy. We can't have people running into the street holding up traffic to take pics of Michael jackson in his limo (yeah they did that).
