I never been to the D, but I went to college with a bunch of people from there. Everybody I know from Detroit know how to snap on niggas. So, I can understand how it's just natural that a Detroit MC has lots of punch lines. Eminem is the king of it, but it's a lot of ill dudes spittin' from out there. J Dilla is recognized posthumously as one of the best producers, but people really slept (and still do sleep) on his mic skills.

Yea the D been grindin forever but alot of the artists haven't been exposed to the world for one reason or another until this lil chain incident. I understand people are saying to a certain extent, but @ the same time they should respect the fact that urban music entrepreneurship came from Detroit in the 60. A lot of that music and ideals of running a label are still utilized in the major label system to this day.

I have said to a few of my friends and on other websites that I will not be happy until ALL of the regions of the US get full, honest representation. The East started it all, and put its imprint on hip hop culture. Then it moved to the West, and the West made its mark. The South is getting its exposure in the limelight. So it's only right that the Midwest gets its shine too. I mean, I'm from New York (QUEENS ALL DAY!), but I really don't have a bias for the East Coast artists. Shit, my favorite emcees are from the Midwest: Kanye and Em.

Like people said here...Hmph. It strikes me as funny that it took some wack ass cornball rapper to get robbed of his chain for the D to get exposure. It's quite embarrassing actually, if this is what it took.

And what about the other states that have never had any shine at all, like Alaska, Hawaii, Maine, Montana, North & South Dakota, Connecticuit, Vermont, Oklahoma...? These places need representation too.

Naw the midwest really doesn't get alot of shine..its too bad, there is alot of talent running around there. everything from hip hop, r&b and even rock music! the midwest got it. But for some odd reason we dont have any outlets to get things crackin. Hence alot of people move to markets that are on the verge of blowing or blowing up, ie ATL,HOU,PHX, you run into alot of people from the midwest in these places. One thing you notice is that we do share the same morals and beliefs when we are out of our element but can't get along when we are all back home lol...I ride for the midwest like no other. Gotta love Big10 country. I just hope we get a fair shot.

This article was written two months ago, upon request. My AHH Editor was waiting for the right time to run it. And after the chain incident, and the ridiculous popularity of that "It's So Cold in D" video, it seemed like a good time. It's true what they say, there's no such thing as bad publicity. I have to say, we don't want people to think that Detroit is some awful slum where you get beat down all the time. It's an urban environment, so shit can happen, but Detroit can also be a pretty cool, interesting, cultural place to live.

I actually thought 8 Mile sucked. It barely even chipped the ice in regards to the essence of Detroit. On top of that, it was full of propaganda. Had Em beating up on this black dude and shit. Em is a rapper, he never was built for the streets of Detroit. Guess that's what Hollywood does to you.

Now the 8 Mile soundtrack...that's a different story. I thought it was kinda dope and actually DID capture the essence of Detroit Hip Hop, even though it had a few NY cats on it too. I thought the soundtrack was raw hip hop, and I ain't even an Eminem fan. That just goes to show you that Em's heart is in the music and he needs to leave Hollywood alone.

However, I did find one gas station in Hampton (close to Fox Hills and Mercury....I think Anderson is the actual street that it is on)..THEY SELL FAYGO!! Its cool up here. Im in Madison where the college at so its real different then Saginaw, but its cool. Its real relaxed nobody gettin shot like that, its jobs, its cool. Its a good place to be if u trying to get yo shit right and focus on doing what u pose to do. Its real close to the Chi too so if u wanna kick it u can always go there and chill

all this talk is non-sence, the proof is in actions. A couple of people mentioned Esham, if you are from, or claim you know anything about the D, you Motown and you know R.L.P.(Real Life Productions). Esham has put out over 14 solo albums and over 6 group(Natas) albums(Esham-TNT-Mastamind), first to have a double cd(before 2 Pac), first to make a rap song about weed,(before Dr. Dre) first to have a album with a video for every song(except one) dvd included(before 50 cent). Now for all the people you did mention (and same goes for every other Detroit rapper that I can think of) no Detroit rapper makes whole cd's, they put so many people on the album(for some reason) that when you buy one guys album you get ten other people rapping on it. A solo rappers put out solo projects. One thing in life you have to belive in yourself, so that is the only reason I mention the RLP empire and Detroit, it started in 88" and still to this day, nothing but trend setting products come from this entity. Any rapper any where would love to have never had someone else hand in their vision-money-finished product.quote from the Godfather himself (If you so Dope sell it yourself). Yo,I noticed theres a lot of people talking bout what about this Detroit rapper, what about that one...what about Esham...Dog,This is All Hip HOp.com..Not all Detroit.com. the article could only be so long...It doesnt make you more,or less of a Detroit hip hop head for not mentioning EVERYBODY. And why is everybody sweating ESHAM...yeah he's a Detroit Legend..but dont get it twisted,Niggaz was not walking round the "D" wit ESHAM T-shirts on like Zombies chanting "HE"S OUR LEADER"....TRUST ME,I WAS THERE.. I'm not a Detroit SPECTATOR...
