The punishments are often more harsh, more stringent and tend to have longer lasting affects than those lighter complectioned individuals in America. When a man pays his dues to society (by incarceration or what have you) he should not have to pay any other debts. What would be fair is saying that he is not allowed to own a dog as they tell convicted felons they cannot own a weapon. I am an animal lover to the heart and what he did was unfortunate whether he did it intentionally or by mistake, but he has paid for it and the transaction is completed. He should be allowed to go back to his normal life. (minus owning pets) That is what the justice system is for.

re: Michael Vick, Hip-Hop, and the Politics of Punishment

LEAVE A BLACK MAN ALONE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

IF HE SERVED HIS FUCKING TIME, AND PAID HIS DEBT TO SOCIETY WITH ITS CURROPT LAWS THAT'S DESIGNED TO KEEP THE BLACK MAN DOWN, THEN LET HIM ROCK!!!!!!!!!!

BROOKLYN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

WE FIGHT DOGS ALL THE TIME IN THE HOOD SMH

HOP OFF THE BLACK MAN DICK!!!!!!!!!

re: Michael Vick, Hip-Hop, and the Politics of Punishment

@Delicatebeats,

How would he have to do to earn your forgiveness?

re: Michael Vick, Hip-Hop, and the Politics of Punishment

Prenz said:

"All Vick needed was to get a license and he could kill any animal he wanted as long as he was using the appropriate weapon and dressed accordingly.

----------

True true. Now if they made him do this before his conviction to lesson his "sentence" from roger goodell then thats different. but the man went to federal prison, not county jail to be booked the nget out on bail. almost 2 years of his life and playing days are gone becuz of it & people have the audacity to think more punishment & embarassment is needed. RACIST COWARDS. thats what the league commisioners are. i cant wait for the "barack obama of the nfl" to come and change the ways of "punishment on black athletes" cuz like i said before the white athletes arent inoocent. they've done crimes to but the nfl networks choose not to talk about them & what they did, let alone any further punishment from good ol' boy...i mean goodell.

re: Michael Vick, Hip-Hop, and the Politics of Punishment

cosign----->Prenz

re: Michael Vick, Hip-Hop, and the Politics of Punishment

@bigzoo

They love anything that they consider a pet...including us until we fall from there good graces; (O.J. I would have gave him 6months and 6months probation and a fine. Shit I know its animal cruelty but they always talk about Pitbulls are a danger to society but then when you fight them its wrong too? What are you suppose to do with them then!? He was jsut the guy the house belonged to and I guess they got money from but he wasnt the ones actually hands on doing it to my knowledge. Id say fuck PETA and I did my time and im gonna come back and prove yall wrong and win a championship. Do people get in trouble for roadkill? I see plenty of dogs on the road run over and dead but I bet the person who ran it over didnt get a ticket or go to jail.

@canipost?

They if you speak of all white people or the government do not like MMA. Its not sanctioned in all States and still is looked at as a barbaric human cockfight to some. Which it isnt its a pure sport with different techniques. Look at Hockey its a sport and they allow fighting. You got Boxing, Wrestling, Judo, and other martial arts in the Olympics but why cant MMA which is Mixed Martial Arts! Check out UFC 98 if you missed it. Rashad Evans(black Guy) who was the Champ and undefeated got his ass whooped by Lyoto Machida.

re: Michael Vick, Hip-Hop, and the Politics of Punishment

@Delicatebeats, you need a reality check. Your comment proves that "Society"(White) believes that a dogs life is more important than a black mans. This man served 19 months in jail for dog fighting. WTF? Vick, Hold your head King. You've paid you debt to society, now make them reimburse you. Peace to the Gods and Earths.

re: Michael Vick, Hip-Hop, and the Politics of Punishment

Check out http://www.myspace.com/kevparis for some calm n smooth music

Kev Paris*
"le calme et lisse as usu-al"

re: Michael Vick, Hip-Hop, and the Politics of Punishment

@theillseed you said: "all he needs to focus on is getting on that field and doing his thing."

run nigga run, huh...

life is more important than a game, fam...

one

re: Michael Vick, Hip-Hop, and the Politics of Punishment

@209

I agree.

he took responsibility. he couldv'e easlily snitched on nfl players, people who came to his spot, people who betted. anything. i know the FEDS was like tell us this and that. and i bet if he did, he wouldv;'e got probation, suspended for like 3 games, etc.

he had every right to be a RAT, too. millions lost, his own people snichted on him. the sad part in all this is he's vilified for being a MAN. while RATS are still looked at as being MEN. this is truly a new world.

REMEMBER ray lewis. he had TWO bodies. he took the stand even though the alleged people beat the case. lewis got probaation and the nlf fined him.

Vick was worth an easy 150 million, and since almost everyone on here thinks you can buy the FEDS, makes me wonder why the fu*k he didn';t buy his case. well maybe becasue only currency the feds trade in is INFO
re: Michael Vick, Hip-Hop, and the Politics of Punishment

@stevenyayo

No I didn't see UFC 98...I prefer dog fighting...maybe next year it will be part of the Superbowl halftime show

we've been getting our asses kicked by White people since day one...that was my whole point... but thank you anyway for pointing out that another (Black Guy) got his ass whooped

re: Michael Vick, Hip-Hop, and the Politics of Punishment

MY QUATERBACK IS BACK!!!!!!!!!!!!! Also Lyoto is half Japanese Half Bazilian and looks like Ryu off of Street Fighter. But Rampage Jackson will fight him next so hoepfully he will knock his ass out cuz Rampage is my fav fighter. It doesn't matter that Michael Vick is black. He served his time. If Peyton had of been caught dogfighting, the media would have just as quickly ripped the shirt of his back too. Anyone that is in the spotlight as much as they are has a pretty damn good chance of getting caught if there running an illegal outfit in their basement. As for getting back into the NFL, it's a privelage to be a professional athlete. The fact that Mike had 150 million of whatever someone else said, would show me that he doesnt need to be making ne goddamn money off a dog fighting ring.
another note, dog fighting may look really bad to the general public, but the fact is a lot of people grow up in a commmunity where its a regular event, people cant help the way they are brought up.
So as for getting back into the NFL, he should apologise and take a pay cut. To sit and watch him be lynched and now burned shows the true mentality of some 'Owners'! Also 'Tear and feathering'...

You have people killing there wives(pregnant,honeymooning,atleast 3 or more),mothers killing there own children(lying and blaming over vick type people),Husbands coming home slaughtering thier entire family over being unemployeed!

And to see people come on TV condeming 'Vick' as the worst person in the world is totally insane to me! Vick is an animal for killing a dog and Danny Heatley gets a free pass for killing a man. Both these guys played professional sports in Atlanta. One was welcomed back with open arms and one is basically an outcast. If you don't think this is about the color of his skin then you are a dumb muthafukka point plank period. That's a shout out to you delicate beats

re: Michael Vick, Hip-Hop, and the Politics of Punishment

@PeoplePlease

You are either white, an uncle tom, or just dumb as shit if u don't think this is about color

re: Michael Vick, Hip-Hop, and the Politics of Punishment

Peta don't are haven't ( not to my knowledge) have ever came out when dogs violently attacked children. It has been stated many articles published on his situation that he cooperated and that is fact. In the beginning that house was raided for drugs and when they got there is when all the dog fighting shit was found out. Mick Vick told on people and he has to live with that plain and simple.

Regardless whether Mike Vick told or not the way he has been dragged through the mud and made to be an example is unfair and wrong.

Race is envolved in how Mick Vick was treated. Its not that some black people condone other black people doing wrong. Its just that if you know a white person caught in the same situation would be treated differently you want that for the black person also. For those who believe that Mike Vick got more time then Peyton Manning would had he committed the same asinine crime you are simply stupid. White people abide to the same laws as black people but it's sad that some of you underachiever's feel the need to constantly pull the race card! Get a life and make use of it stop blaming the white man for all of your misfortunes. As for the article I thought it was rather disappointing, Tolu makes some very bad points. First off, Vick was never unstoppable, he was a decent quarterback who revolutionized the game for a time being. He could scramble and make some plays that we've never seen before and that's why I loved to watch him BUT his style would never win a Superbowl. Let's face the truth, he couldn't pass consistently and you don't see scramblers like Vick anymore. McNabb used to scramble a lot but realized he'd never win thinking run first all the time. Now you see McNabb (who can pass with the best) in Superbowl after Superbowl. Also the last point I'd like to make is for those who think because he did his time he should be given his pass right back into the NFL. I completely disagree, imagine if you were charged with the same crimes as Vick, it would ruin your life. We would never get a decent paying job, probably be right around minimum wage the rest of our lives. The very least Vick should do is "kiss some ass", in fact he should give a public apology, maybe do some commercials warning idiots like Mr.100STACKS about the dangers of dog fighting. The bottom line is Vick is a monster and killed dogs, 19 months will never replace those tortured dogs lives and for those who condone his actions I think are monsters as well. Stop pulling the race card, a.k.a an excuse and live your life to it's fullest potential.

re: Michael Vick, Hip-Hop, and the Politics of Punishment

hold you head my dude your in my prays

re: Michael Vick, Hip-Hop, and the Politics of Punishment

how do you have someone in your prayers thats evil and a scumbag!!!! thats fucked up man your a goof youngwon!!!

re: Michael Vick, Hip-Hop, and the Politics of Punishment

@bjc1221

Your whole argument is off on so many levels its ridiculous but I'm just gonna stick to a few points. First off, I'm not trying to disrespect or offend you in any way. Everybody doesnt view the world the same way and the blinders you wear may be because of the background you have. Also, as far as being an underachiever, I own 2 houses, drive a pretty nice car and have two degrees from Tuskegee University so I may not be an over achiever, but I've done alright for myself. I don't think anyone disputes the fact that what Vick did was wrong and he got what he deserved, what we are saying is be fair. I posted a comment above about Danny Heatley (see above) who killed his teamate and got no time. Do you actually think that if that was Vick, he would have gotten off? Peyton Manning and the whole Tennessee mess (also see above), that just disappeared. Shit Pacman Jones gets pulled over for a busted tail light and it makes news. I'm not gonna even try to explain to you because I have things to do and this would take all night but you are a fucking fool if you don't think there is a difference in the way blacks and whites are treated in general (also my latino brothas). We can take it to broadcasting, Marv Albert and Tim Hardaway. Do the research and open your eyes.

re: Michael Vick, Hip-Hop, and the Politics of Punishment

@vancitykilla09

Dude, STFU. He served his time. Who the fuck are you to throw stones?? I'm sure your dumbass has done something. What about that beef and chicken you eat, do you feel sorry for those animals or just dogs. Man just shut the hell up.

re: Michael Vick, Hip-Hop, and the Politics of Punishment

Outlaw76, I was not intending to generalize everybody on this site as underachievers rather implying that those who pull the race card are looking for an excuse for their misfortunes. Now I must say you bring up a good point with Danny Heatley but do you truly believe he got no time because he is white?!? My main beef here is the ignorance that is displayed in some of the comments where in fact people are condoning his actions which is sickening. Saying it happens in the hood everyday. Does that make it right? Absolutely not and for somebody to speak of dog fighting in that sense like its not a big deal in a comment about an article of Mike Vick is just stupid. I am white and I don't see it from and african americans angle but I do not believe that black people are treated anymore unfairly then white people are. We cannot use Danny Heatley or Mike Vick to generalize and say this is how things work in our society. I'm sure there are many details about the Heatley incident that you and I don't know about which led to him not being put in prison. Also Dante Stallworth looks like he's going to avoid manslaughter charges, is it because the man he killed was hispanic? But you cannot assume none of this has never happened to me because some of it actually has. Recently I was in a local department store only to be stopped in the store by 2 cops who were called because I looked "suspicious". Now this has only happened once but my point is don't assume it won't happen to me because I happen to be white. And I believe cops should be placed in minority areas if there is more crime, which in most cases there is. But as I write this I admit there could be more crime simply because there is more cops to stop the crime. Its a touchy subject and I hope I haven't offended anybody. I just get frustrated reading many of these comments calling white people crackas because we have different opinions on this subject but let me start dropping the "N" word and I'd probably get removed from the site. What's up with that??

Also the Peyton Manning example you gave me was weak! He sat on a girl's face? It is totally 'IGNORANT' to ignore these realities and act like everything is 'fair&balanced' in America!

With Vick achieving the most important position in football he became a target! He had to be 'Tared and feathered' to discourage black youths(braids&du-rags) types from seeking to dominate that postition of QB black youth should only be 'cattle type' looked at as animals or beast of burden 'Run kunta! Run kunta'!

To be a great QB you must have the ability to sense danger and not be constricted to a pocket and just stand and shoot! Youtube 'Fran tarkatan???'.... Vick is that dude in that aspect!

To all these 'fake animal lovers' you only love 'DOGS' not animals and most 'DOG' lovers have developed an human bond with there animals! So debating his guilt seems pointless.
Another thing I take issue with is the Black QB issue. After reading McNabb's statements about blacks being underrepresented in the NFL I decided to do some research; my findings did not surprise me. In 2007 the US Census bureau classified 12.8% of the population as being black, meanwhile in the NFL 8 of the 32 (or 25%) starting QB's were black. According to this blacks are in fact overrepresented in the NFL by nearly double.
Tying all of this together, I don't believe that it is racism that may keep Vick out of the league (although I do concede that some of the pundits are likely racists), but the simple fact that Mike Vick just isn't that good of a QB coupled with the fact that he is a convicted felon. Although maybe not as exciting to watch, Matt Ryan, in his first year was statistically speaking a better QB in almost every measure (total yards, comp. percentage, and passer rating). His win/loss record was pretty good too. (feel free to verify my claims at NFL.com)
With all that said I would love to see Vick back in the league just not as the starting QB on my team.

I welcome your comments/criticisms at Sxsimovic@gmail.com

re: Michael Vick, Hip-Hop, and the Politics of Punishment

fuck michael vick he a sad loser better not come my way or will never see him play agian!!!!!!!!!

re: Michael Vick, Hip-Hop, and the Politics of Punishment

@ Bear 8:

OK, so the new rule is black people have all black juries, white people all white, hispanic...you get the picture. That's the way you want things run? Juries are chosen from people in the same county, or state, depending on what you are called for. So yes, if you kill someone you may end up with a disproportionate number of some other race on the jury. Excuse me if I don't feel bad for you.

You really truly believe that just as many burglaries, for example, occur in middle class "white" neighborhoods than poorer "black" neighborhoods"? Give me a break. And I put the words in quotes because a neighborhood isn't anything but what the people living in it make it. So sick of this garbage. I'm all for fairness but this is just whiny cry baby shit.

For God sakes man you're defending a sadistic selfish piece of garbage. Don't you see that? This has nothing to do with racism, and if you think Peyton Manning would have been treated differently you're a freaking idiot. I'd be just as disgusted with him. The thing is, HE WOULDN'T DO IT. Why the hell can't you stop living in a world of "what if's" and live in a world of "what is"? The fact is you should be just as disgusted by Michael Vick as the majority of the public. The fact you are making excuses for his scumbag behavior is more divisive than any skin color could ever be. If you think for one second I will ever accept that type of behavior from anyone who lives around me, white or otherwise, you're out of your freaking mind.

re: Michael Vick, Hip-Hop, and the Politics of Punishment

@ keithyutica:

Dude...please go back to pan handling on the street.

Your beliefs would scare me, if you weren't a complete idiot with no means of effecting them in a productive way. There is so much ignorance piled into your one post I almost feel as if it should win some award. Maybe I'll make you one.

Yes, all of this happened to Michael Vick because he achieved the vaunted "QB status". You're right, every little white boy in America was so put off by the fact that another black QB was succeeding. As a full grown white male I must say I felt the pain. It's just so damn threatening to me, ya know? I mean, my football hero, Randall Cunningham, he was OK...but Vick? That's just one to many black QB's.

Luckily the whites colluded with the mainstream media to come up with this brilliant dog fighting scheme, and take Vick down. I mean, who would believe that Vick wasn't fighting dogs? It's such a ghetto stereotype, everyone would just assume it was true. The fact that it actually was true, well that was just bonus!

So here we sit, gearing up for more assaults on Vick because of his skin color. He's just so SCARY! We have to do SOMETHING about it. I mean, if he was a guy who didn't involve himself in wannabe gangsta behavior I would obviously feel the same about him. It has nothing to do with what he does, just the fact that his skin color is different than me. Skin color is a very important deciding factor in my life.

re: Michael Vick, Hip-Hop, and the Politics of Punishment

@Outlaw76:

"Man you shouldn't even comment on this because no matter what, you can neva, eva, eva understand what blacks go through on a daily basis."

Man, STFU. You want to write up some rules on what we are allowed to comment on please?
