The US always tries to make the rest of the world look like the bad guys when in reality we have our hands and so many pots that they dont belong in with hidden agendas. That goes to show you how the world treats African countries who dont have strong governments, economies, and arm forces...so the US goes over to these countries and gangster them or exploit them (and have been since slavery) but once these countries fight back they become pirates, terrorists, insurgents, all of a sudden or whatever new code word the media creates to make the US seem like the good guys and everybody else the villain. Damn destroying a generation...if they are targeting ships that are dumping and destroying their homeland that's all well and good, but when they are invading ships that are sending aid to their country and they want to hold the captain hostage then they deserve to get one in their dome and if you don't like it then you can get on too. Let's break it down to a simpler situation.
Someone takes your daughter/son hostage. They refuse to negotiate. What are you gonna do? Well damn, if you have a chance to, you're gonna murk whoever did it! Is it really gonna matter to you if their reason for taking your family member hostage is a good one or not? HELL NO. You're still gonna kill 'em.
It's pretty much the same here. The military views EVERY american citizen as family. So regardless of why the dude was held captive, when they got the chance to kill his captors, they did just that.

The "piracy" may have started as a defense mechanism but that is not what it is today. Like many aspects of cultures around the world, it started with good intentions but greed turned it into something ugly.

The United States did try to help in Somalia. In 1992, I believe it was. The people were not exactly accepting of the aid. Some have said not to believe what the media feeds you. I agree but in response I say do not believe something just because one man says it in an interview. He may speak the truth but don't take it as gospel from the door. For those that say " F*#% America" and live in this country, your ignorance is unexplainable. Know that these people see YOU as an American and would treat you no different than the captain of that ship.

It should be noted that after Somalia’s government collapsed in 1991 was when the dumping and stealing of fish begin. Basically many nations would routinely dump nuclear waste from one part of the Somali coastline and steal seafood from another part, and the Somali people complained to nations around the world and brought it to the UN and no one listened even as people were getting sick and dying due to the contaminated water, food and soil. It wasn’t until the tsunami in 2005 that washed hundreds of barrels onto beaches of Somali that they were believed but by then it was too late because all those fishermen who lost their well-being due to the pollution and thievery had reached their breaking point and that’s when the piracy came. So they aren’t targeting ships that are currently dumping because that to a degree has stopped because of the piracy but now it’s about revenge and all ships are on their radar of attack. Is it right or wrong? Not for me to say but I will say it was wrong for them to be ignored and for countries to use the Gulf of Aden as a personal toilet.
