First of all anyone on here using the term snitching needs to grow the F**k up!
What are eight years old?
Snitching is not talking to the police, nor is it going to court.
Snitching by definition is: if A + B rob a bank, and A gets caught, A tells on B to get off or less time.
Standing on a corner and getting caught in cross fire of something that has nothing to do with you, or going to a club and a fight breaks out and some moron shots into a crowd, telling on the person doing the shooting is not snitching.
Part of the problem is people, white and black, don't know how to act! I see kids on talk shows talking about sleeping with 20 guys, and beating people up at 13! The you watch a clip of Dipset saying the same thing at 30!
If TI pointed the guy out! Said his name, drew a picture I still wouldn't think he was snitching get this scum off the street.

To the editorial. Your expressed view is only partly realistic. You point to scenarios that cause one to think in one direction. Reality is (when considering life) what it is: REAL. And real is what one does for themselves in that life.

The answer to the question: 'To snitch or not to snitch?' is answered simply by the how one lives their lives.

Is the 9 to 5 business worker prohibited from being a snitch? That depends solely on how that businessperson preforms their work. If they lie, cheat, and steal to climb their ladder of success; then the answer is "Yes. They are prohibited from being a snitch."

I do agree those that portray a lifestyle they cannot 'back-up' when the hammer needs to fall should not lie to themselves in such a manner. It usually takes an act realize what one is really made of in the life they chose.

The reality of who should or should not snitch is simply put: If you live life in the fashion to attain your desires -negating the law to do it. Then you should continue to disassociate yourself from the law when things get hot. If you obey the laws instilled, then you should continue to obey the laws when things get hot.

In fact. You put it best early in your editorial. For every one person wrongly jailed there are about ten rightly there. (IMHO. There is most likely a lot more than a 10:1 ratio).

Stories are stories. But reality is truth. And plenty of people -even by your above standards- hold court in the streets for themselves. *And it's those people -and only they- that should... no... that MUST adhere to the "code".

If I anonymously provided the authorities with good intel through a hotline, because say, I wanted to put my cousin in a position to take that area over, and plus the indicted one has a stunningly beautiful girl that has given me some flirt room in the past, Would I be a snitch or a shrewd, calculating beast? He's doing life, my cousin is running the ecstasy game on this end giving me kickback and I am banging the lifer's girl! I think you all need to read the Art of War and the 48 Laws of Power.

I think people mis-contrue what "no snitching" really means. Its doesnt mean that if you tell what you know and tell the truth about something that you had nothig to do with. To me it represents those people who "snitch" on others so they will get in lesser trouble when they were equally wrong. Example: If both of us commit the same crime and I that you did it and I also tell them that you just so happen to deal drugs then Im a snitch because instead of me taking responsibilty for my actions I threw you under the bus too. To me if I see someone get shot and the police ask me what the shooter looked like, Im not snitching because I answer them correctly. Im telling them what I saw. Hey, my uncle was killed in the hood on some senseless shit and if it wasnt for someone in the community who recognize that wrong is wrong and the shooter needed to be brought to justice than my grandmother wouldnt have any closure. But because that person is spending life in prison she has some relief that justice was served. IDK. Grow up, read the law, and know the streets. For one thing this is a state case, not a fed case, it has nothing to do with cutting time from the fed case because it cannot do that.
First you need to know that.

Second his "cooperation" in this case can only go so far as T.I. lets it go, meaning he can only say what he saw from his eyes... If he said he saw nothing but Phil die, which he basically did the whole time on the stand, then no one can say otherwise. Because that is what he claims to have seen from HIS OWN eyes, than he can say he saw nothing at all...again, he did this.

Snitching means you are pointing the finger at someones actions, or describing that person in a situation to make it seem that He/She is definately guilty of some sort of crime. If you analyze the video, T.I. did not point out anyone at all, nor did he even identify the color of the shooters car, the men that tried to get in vip, or even what group "made it rain" which took Yung Joc out of the situation completely.

Period Point Blank....this is the total opposite of snitching and an almosty genius move for a 28 yr old to even accomplish, with no flaws in how he explained the story. And what did anyone in that court room get from what T.I. said on the stand??? Absolutely NOTHING. Can you accomplish that?

Again you miss the point. A state case is NOT a fed case. To cut time on a fed case being a 7 time felon it would take more than putting two brothers in jail, unless those brothers are the head of an extremely huge organization. Are they? Anybody that feels T.I. didn't snitch are really mislead...I understand that 98% of those that post to this bitch have never had any "real" drama in the streets, nor in the court room.
The first case I caught as a youngin' back in the day was for a brick. I caught the charge in the midwest back in the late 80's, anybody on this board that know that region and that time frame knows, they wasn't havin' black getto bastards bringin' their drugs, guns, and drama to the heartland.
That was the moment that I had to make a real life decision...facing multiple decades in prison, with a newborn baby, and one on the way.
I chose to stay "true" to a life that I had knowingly chose. That life was "not" a mainstream, socially accepted life. It was a life of crime, and the values and ethics of the street are in most cases totally opposite of their counterparts in a "square" 9/5 life....this is what's lost in most of these inet debtates about snitchin'....clifford snitched, but not in the way most of you are looking for...clifford gave the law information on an unsolved homicide,which is probably how he got the downward departure from the original mandatory guidelines in the weapons charge...his takin' the stand was part of his deal, they need his statements to underscore the testimony of dudes brother when he takes the stand so he doesn't look like the bitch he is that's just trying to save his on ass.
If T.I. Wasn't poppin' all that gangsta, drug dealer shit in first 3 CD's and braggin' on his felonies nobody would expect him to adhere to an unorthodox and very "nonfeeling" code of ethics. He brought this scrutiny on himself, see, what's not being expressed in most arguements on this topic is that real g's expect to loose homeys in wars. That doesn't mean we don't feel for the dead homeys or their families, but that's when retaliation jumps off..and that's a whole other debate in itself.
I'm not speakin' to what's right or wrong, that debate has raged for centuries, but rollin' down I40 bumpin' Mayfield and droppin' science on the 98% of y'all that aint really livin' the life and always speakin' on shit you know nothing about makes me thank GOD I made it out the life so I'm not in a situation to have to choose.

a deal that would have to show in T.I.'s public record as "cooperation with police in ongoing investigation of an open case" in which there is no such record.

If i am a well known entrepenuer and you have one dollar to your name, who is most likey to be favored by ANY form of government? In TIs case the judge assumed it would be more helpful if TI was out of prison, in order to help the problems plaguing the youth. That is called fortune. I been through it...ALL OF IT. Single parent home, Mom crying because she doesn't know how she is going to feed me, let alone her. Rats, roaches, less than stellar school clothes. The thing is, I always knew life wasn't supposed to be this way, and it didn't have to stay that way. I knew I was going to graduate without repeating a grade. I knew I would go to college and excel. The people who stay, choose to stay. They refuse to look towards another pathway, and take what they see as an easier, more (street) credible route. The hood celebrates someone exiting the pen, but cares less about someone graduating college, or even high school for that matter. We put dope boys and "G's" on a pedestal, while calling the ones who choose education or any other positive route sell-outs, squares, lame, etc. So the life of crime or the life of a gangsta is presented to them in a way that has them believing this is the only way a "real nigga" can survive. With all the emphasis on staying "real", it's no wonder they choose the path they choose. Even simple things like using proper english, reading, and pursuing higher education get yo labeled as "acting white", as if white people are the only ones capable of accomplishing these task. Keeping it real equals keeping it ignorant.

Dick Chaney gets charged for crimes within 2 months of him stepping down; and we only tried to impeach Bill Clinton towards the end of his run. No president has ever been impeached, not even the most corrupt and inhumane of em all, George W. Bush.

I'd be more happy about folks helpin the cops and government out in solvin crimes so that our neighborhoods could be better protected, but the cops and government don't really care about us, and they NEVER SUFFER ANY CONSEQUENCES FOR THEIR ACTIONS.

Case in point: Sean Bell. All those cops, by firing bullets into a movin car, violated NYPD protocol. And they fired 50 shots. So how did all of these pigs get acquitted? Why didn't they "snitch?"

The article doesn't accuse TI of being a snitch but it's naive to think he's not the person at the heart of this debate. I don't think it's fair to decry the article without reading it. I think the picture is entirely appropriate because he is the present lightning rod of this discussion.

Snitching is when you tell on someone FOR NO REASON, like if you get caught cheating when everyone else that was doing got away. First off, there is very little, if any "honor amongst thieves". Once you can grasp that concept you can understand why people shout "stop snitching". It's simply a case of people trying to cover their own ass. The "stop snitching" movement was/is geared specifically at the AVERAGE CITIZEN, not the rat. The rat is telling on other criminals because the reward out weights the consequences, being that the rat himself is a criminal. On the other hand, the average law biding citizen might be intimidated to report a criminal because the consequences usually out weight the reward, at least in the short term.

So the word "snitch" (which is reserved for a partner in crime that turns to the authorities) gets placed on the law biding citizen that report crimes in order to make reporting crime seem like an immoral thing to do. Why ? It is convenient for the criminal and also because nobody wants to be called a snitch same as nobody would like to be called a communist or a fag.
