I Feel Sorry For You, Wack Rapper

I know I am going to be a big bowl of depression when I say this one, but I have to say it. In saying it, I know I am going to be called a hater and a bunch of other colorful that people use to cover up their intellectual shortcomings.

But it is time to cut the crap.

The music we’re making is really turning into some trash that a landfill would refuse to house. I like youtube, twitter and facebook too, but the shouldn’t be places for you to promote your music as you figure it out. Rappers are doing one song, record a shoddy video and then uploading that b***h to youtube for everybody to see. Then, they spam everything with an email address to show it off.

Mr. Wack Rapper, I know you won’t heed this, but stop it. Cut the crap. Get a job. Take care of yourself. Take care of your mom, your kids, your unborn seeds…just stop rapping, please!

We can’t turn you off all the time. We just can’t! You are everywhere. You do mixtapes when you should be flipping burgers or finishing college. You are spending money on studio time and equipment when you should be saving up for a house! Your girl is tired of your shenanigans. You have tattoos all over your non-eating body. Eventually, you are going to get old, fat, and your tats will fade and stretch.

I mean no harm. I just want my ears to be happy. I just want you mother to be a proud one…one that can say, “My boy has a job and he does not look like a failed heavy metal singer.” Now, I am not opposed to everybody looking like a Lil Wayne reject, but I am opposed to losing a GENERATION of young people who have decided that they are going achieve the unattainable at any cost.

Yes, this is beyond me laughing at rappers on youtube. This is a far more grave matter. There was a time when you would dress and act like a rapper and then shed that outer shell for a honest living (even if you still did your rap thing on your time). These Sideshow Bob looking cats can’t do that unless the day job is a circus.

I don’t mean any harm, but another one is this kid Arab that used to be down with Soulja Boy. Somebody close to me sent me a video of his and honestly, I almost punched my computer.

This is the video.

And it’s not just the young…it’s the old too.

I came across this the other day and I was just shocked that this person named Mean Green was actually rapping.

Dude had the nerve to make it drizzle and then took the money back when somebody tried to pick it up.

Here is another video of ol’ Mean Grean, who ended up rocking his Arkansas crowd.

“I know you like that!”

Nope.

I’m really not hating. I’m really concerned for Arab and Mean Green. At some point, they are going to have to admit that this thing called rapping just isn’t a trade that they are going to fare well in.

If I’m wrong, I’m wrong…but I think I’m right on the mean green.

In every sport that we like, we do have our own desired players and beloved teams that we prove so much. We examine all their sport and cheer them on when they get a tally. We also tend to shout motivational cheers when they play awfully. We even buy posters, auburn mugs, t-shirts, jerseys and other stuffs containing the players names and the name of the bunch that we dearest so much. This is how most of the sports fans espousal their well-loved sports icons and teams.
Sports fans most specifically buy jerseys in blanket. Wholesale NFL jersey are in deed very salable to most of the football fans not only in the United States of America but in the entire world, as well. Buying general NFL jerseys is very advantageous because this is one way of receiving these jerseys in a cheaper prices. This way, fans may be able to buy as many jerseys as they can.

Nicki Minaj can rap, she just fell for the lie..

that the only way you can get on/in is by adhering to this formula of being a sex kitten.

so her image & content is jacked, by "real Hip-Hop" standards.

but she can rap, I wish she would go back to her old style when she sounded like she was from NY.

The Wack Rapper (aka "The Sucker MC") is nothing more than a musical roach or maggot. When good Hip-Hop is left on the shelf, when dope MC's aren't selling records, the House of Hip-Hop gets messy.

When the house gets messy, the bugs come out. It has always been this way.

The biggest difference is this:

+ 1970's through early 1990's - Hip-Hop heads built the house, and paid taxes to the labels.

+Late 1990's to Present - We're paying rent, and have no locks on the doors.

The original rule was "If you're wack, we diss you. We boo you off stage. We clown the record shop that carried your album. We clown the DJ that played your song. We clown the venue that let you perform."

The new rule is "If you can make money, do whatever you please. If anyone clowns you, they're just jealous of your money. There are no wack rappers because if they can sell records, then they are dope."

Record labels only put out music that sells records. Well collectively, heads tend to not buy records as much as other markets. That means Record labels put out music that is NOT targeting us. Why should they? Rakim takes as long to write an album as Dr. Dre does to produce a song. And in both cases the product might be high quality, but it's very sparse (Dre has been creating "new" break beats with stabs and melodies over them for 10 years).

Wack rappers are like roaches. They show up when food is left out.
Pete Rock & CL Smooth
Guru & Premier
Eric B. & Rakim
Wycleff & Lauryn Hill
Big Boi & Andre 3000
Pete Nice & MC Serch
Pharcyde
Q-Tip & Phife
Leaders of the New School
Doug E Fresh & Slick Rick (showing my age, right?)
Mista Lawnge & Dres
Erick & Parrish
Native Tongue Collective (why the [insert your favorite expletive] haven't these guys started making albums TOGETHER???)

... we could go on and on.

Crews seem to make dope music and leave the dinner table before they finish eating. So what happens? Roaches.

Quit trying to stomp them all. Just focus your loot on good music and help us clean up the house. Scrub and mop and polish. Otherwise this is just Pro-Wrestling at it's finest. A bunch of costumed characters acting out male dominant soap operas.

"...by the way, did you see what 50 said about Rick Ross' baby mama?"

Wake up, heads. Y'all gotta see how sorry this whole thing is. Down with the "Rap Game" and Long Live Hip-Hop. Now if you'll excuse me, I'm going to pick up the new Souls of Mischief album over at ughh dot com.

Good article, but nonetheless the way some see themselves may not necessary be the way the world interprets them. I with the writer when he said "I am opposed to losing a GENERATION of young people who have decided that they are going achieve the unattainable at any cost." A lot of these young men and women have no real goals or proceeding in the wrong manor to achieve them. As with most things this won't change until it finally bottoms out. When that will be??? The sad truth is the wack rapper is here to stay.  There are 10 times as many wack rappers now than there was 5 years ago.  It's just to easy to record a track and post a video.  99 percent of these sucka mc's do it for the fame.  They think if they cut a record they'll get women and popularity.  The sad part is they are right.  It's up to us to be honest and tell people their s**tis horrible and they need to find another profession.  I'm sick and tired of someone trying to sell me their $5 cd at the mall.  I throw it in my cd player than straight out the window.  Rapping isn't for anyone the same as being a fire fighter, soldier, or C.E.O.  Respect to anyone trying to do what they love, but damn son, I'm not trying to hear it.

Really Good Article. I thought I was the only person in the world who felt this way. People always say, "MYSPACE" and "YOUTUBE" are great because they help people get noticed, build buzz, etc. bulls**t. In my own opinion RAP DOESNT SALE ANYMORE DUE TOO EVERY TOM< d**k <AND HARRY on MYSPACE AND YOUTUBE CLAIMING THEY ARE RAP ARTIST!!! Reason Being, the first thing that comes to these TOM< d**k <AND HARRYs minds is.....WHY SHOULD I BUY THIS GUYS CD...HELL PEOPLE SHOULD BE BUYING MINE, I'M A RAPPER TOO, I GOT TALENT TOO, I WANNA MAKE IT RAIN TOO, I WANT THE GROUPIES TOO!!!! They think it is all obtainable through the major social networks because one or two people lucked up and made it that way!!! I hear so many people promoting MYSPACE pages...You know what I'm talking about..."CHECK OUT MY MYSPACE AT WWWWW", or "FOLLOW ME ON TWITTER"!!! If they took this same energy and went out and purchased a Rap CD or two, the rap industry wouldnt be in such a slump!!! IF YOU DONT BELIEVE WHAT I'M SAYING TAKE A LOOK BACK AT ALL RAP ALBUM SALES BEFORE MYSPACE AND YOUTUBE WAS LAUNCHED!! AFTER THEY LAUNCHED EVERYONE COULD BE A RAPPER JUST UPLOAD YOUR IMAGES AND MUSIC....DAMN, THERE GOES THE RAP INDUSTRY..RAP SUPPORTERS< TURNED TO RAPPERS, NO MORE BUYING ALBUMS<START RECORDING THEM YOURSELF!!! RAP IS NO LONGER GOOD, I GUESS THE A&RS GOT SUCKKKERED INTO THE HYPE, THAT IF YOU GET ALOT OF HITS ON MYSPACE THEN YOU'RE A HIT!!!! WELL NEWS FLASH YOU CAN GET ALOT OF HITS BY JUST MAKING AN ASS OF YOURSELF AND PEOPLE TUNING IN....OK...GIVE HIM A RECORD DEAL....NOW MUSIC IS NOT UP TO PAR ANYMORE AND THE NEW GENERATION OF ARTIST ARE TRYING TO DO WHAT THEY SEE BEING DONE AND WHATS WORKING ON MYSPACE....LIKE SOULJA BOY ..."YEA MOM I WANNA RAP JUST LIKE HIM, HE MADE IT THROUGH MYSPACE, SO THEREFORE, SO CAN I"!!! IF MYSPACE SHUTDOWN MUSIC PROFILES AND YOUTUBE QUIT POSTING ALL OF ARTIST MUSIC FOR ANYONE TO JUST CLICK AND ACCESS, IT'S ALMOST GARAUNTEED THAT RAP SALES WOULD GO BACK UP MAJOR!! AND MAYBE GUYS WILL START TO GET JOBS AND GO TO COLLEGE INSTEAD OF TELLING EVERY GIRL THEY MEET..YEA BABY, I'M A RAPPER, DONT BELIEVE ME JUST CHECK OUT MY MYSPACE...lol WELL NOW MOST RAPPERS ARE GOING BROKE...BUT DONT WORRY TOM, OWEN, MIKE, AND JASON ARE FILTHY RICH. THEY CREATED MYSPACE AND TOOK PART IN YOUTUBE, FACEBOOK AND TWITTER!!! WHAT CAN I SAY THOUGH...DUMMIES HAVE PROMOTED THE HELL OUT OF THESE SOCIAL NETWORKS TRYING TO PROMOTE THEMSELVES AND THEIR MUSIC...LOL. Naw homie it wasn't D4L.  In my opinion it started with Master P and no limit putting out Garbage on a large scale.  Master P showed a lot of individuals that you can be successful independantly, and in your own city/state until you blow up on a major.  Then came the Hot Boys....JESUS!

If you can't talk, how the hell are you going to rap??? Juvenile's song "Huh" was the worst piece of music I had ever heard at the time. BG rapped like he had a mouth full of marbles.  Lil Wayne.......please I don't even have to mention.  Every Manny Fresh beat sounded the same all the time.

But it does boil down to the consumer.  Stop supporting BS music.  Stop acting like sheep and stop allowing yourselves to be force fed BS.

Good Point....I never thought about what the independent structure has done to hip hop. It's not that it's a bad move, it just gave every corny dude an easy avenue bcuz they knew major's werent gonna sign them to a label.....But honestly people if u think about it.... what did hip-hop music turn into once "snap music" was introduced???....completely down the drain after that with the exception of a few good ones sprinkled in every now and then.

Dookeyface said:

This article is 100% correct. I'd like to add:

1) Back in the day (I hate that phrase but find it so necessary to use when speaking of hip hop) Hip Hop fans were HIP HOP FANS!! Meaning they were fans of the MUSIC. Nowadays, people are fans of the ARTIST. Back then, if you were a rapper, and you were wack, you were wack in N.Y., you were wack in L.A., you were wack everywhere. We all agreed you were wack. If you were a dope artist, we all agreed, you were dope. Nobody in the 80's considered LL Cool J wack, irregardless if he catered more to the ladies. His lyrical ability was not a question, and his songs were still loved by all. Now Lil Wayne is seen as the GOAT to some, and a below average/average rapper to others.

2) BITD, you had to prove yourself as an artist before you dropped an LP. Run DMC, Eric B & Rakim, Big Daddy Kane, Slick Rick, etc, all had multiple singles before their 1st album dropped. When you bought their album, you knew you were going to like at least the 3 or 4 singles you heard previously, and all the new stuff was gravy. This is how CLASSIC albums were born. Rappers didn't record their albums in 3 days, and release it by the weekend. The album sometimes would take a year as the rapper/group played little gigs, freestyled at every opportunity, got their name popping with their consistency with the product they dropped.

3) The "independent" record labels of the 90's are also a factor in today's "wack hip hop". When people discovered this "legal hustle" it flooded the market with people who may have street stories to tell, but do not have the talent to construct these stories creatively. Everybody wants to make fast money, get the broads, cars, ice, and material things with this "legal hustle" and don't take the time to study it as a craft. So what your left with is 3 note beat makers, and rappers who brag they don't write the elementary s**tthey're spittin'.

Building on the last point,

4A) The easy way out. I mean why go to school for architecture for 10 plus years to make 150,000 a year, when I can sing some bulls**t raps, about "I'm not industry, I'm IN DA STREETS", what goonies your affiliated with, and basically no positivity whatsoever,  and possibly make one big million dollar score in the process.

4B) The internet. Easy access to be heard. No more sending demo tapes to labels with the hopes of being heard. Just push record, and upload. This trend is more prevelent with sites like Myspace, You Tube, Soundclick, WSHH, etc. You can buy your $14.00 Radio Shack mic, download your cracked copy of Fruity Loops, add some sounds you downloaded, and your on your way to being the next Lil Wayne/Eminem/Drake/Kanye West.....Forever maine.  Everybody wants to be a star, and less than .001% have star quality.

Much respect bro. I just needed some clarification. Because keep in mind there are some artist who are "wack" only because they are premature; no team, no help, and just a vision and drive  starting out not only working on their craft but their quality of sound from coming from cheap studios to actually advancing to a professional level. some people consider there early stages as "wack" because they lack the industry/professional fundamentals of quality sound/music. trust me I know.

Once again I just want to clarify

This was a funny article but Good Guy please get a copy editor. There is no denying that technology has created a huge lane that's full of lazy people because now too many want to duplicate the outcome of the artist who gets discovered via Youtube or Myspace but fails to understand the full process of getting there. The fact is everybody simply is not cut out for the entertainment business but people are so relentless in their effort to try. Everyone can't be a rapper, singer, producer or promoter. The irony of this piece is Arab's and Mean Green's peoples are gonna think they arrived because they're going to view this as a positive thing, buying the lame belief that all publicity is good publicity which is a fallacy. But like moneynthepower said there is somebody out there who will now start checking for these artists so its a catch-22.

@Muthadon  - unless you subconsciously feel like the shoe fits why are you so defensive? I see you out here promoting your stuff, granted I have never listened to it but my guess is somebody likes your music, so if you're so confident in how you do what you do and it's keeping your bills paid why do you seem so mad?

There's no use in me making blanket statements about hiphop she's far to complicated for that.   What I will do is call out some whack sh!t when I see it...

.with Renaissance State of Mind, a spoof ,as I see it, on Jay-Z's, Empire State of Mind. First, Ooooh let me be the one to say that I'm surprised that no one has slapped the s**tout of this rhyming cat "I'm from Yac- town but when I'm outta town I'm from Detroit" in his fiddukin' mouth, and know, I will not mention his name. That's a waste of my time.

I'm more concerned with locating the pride of Detroit artists? There is a tradition, or at least there should be, in Detroit, of holding each other accountable for the MUSIC and ART that we produce here. To tell the truth with out compromising loyalty, artistic integrity and self-respect.  A heritage of speaking about what you know about, getting called out for talking out of turn or out the side of your neck, and high honors for knowing to shut yo mouth when grown folks is talkin'. Taking  pride in ourselves, even when the rest of the world doesn't get.  Keeping someone in the pocket that will pull our coat tails and tell us when something is whack. As a matter of fact, the dedication to this tradition is what sells, all over the world, about Detroit and its people.

Sidebar: The violation of these principles is the seething heat that lies beneath the rage Detroiters feel for the former, former mayor. It wasn't that he cheated, told lies, keeps telling lies, or disrespected a great deal of public oaths, it is the fact that he broke a moral code and all of us, Eastsiders and Westsiders, young and old, balling and bailing watched it happen feeling unbelievably disrespected. Somebody needs to smack the dog s**toutta him, too. Instead, many stand bug-eyed, shoulders in full shrug. Instead, we're tagging folks with whack sh!t on The Facebook. Using filthy needles of expression to infect the medium with serum littered with fake niggard sh!t. Its showing up in our art and this song is the title track.

Second, it is just plain outlandish to bite a MC's production (video included), take a stab with a spoon at his style, but to jack his flow? "Ha ha ha bless yo soul" Surely you know that you are announcing to the world your lack of innovation, creativity, and style. The least you could have done was wear some rocawear gear since ya biting a man's style like that. Not sure what you call a fashion disaster as it steps in front of the microphone armed with nursery rhymes, yet both "Microphone Controller" and "rapper" have definitions already.

This is no tribute song. Not to Jay-Z and not to Detroit, as a matter of fact it's a slap in the face. This is The Motor City- "you in the SS and me in the Charger"- shout outs to n***as in Marauders? Have you never spent time in southwest on the drag-fool? Do you realize that this is the seat of the Automotive Industrial era? And these are the cars that you choose to reference? Eh- maybe those are the only cars that your Fairlane/ Somerset/ Al Wassam shopping, multicolored wing embroidered jean wearing ass ever rubbed against. Have you every spent more than $20.00 for a meal? Oh that's right, these are the rotters with reservation to the VIP section at the Plaka Café.

Third, ...and as for the incredibly gifted Monica Blaire-"...where yo boss at?" Yes I said it. This performance, plainly put, is beneath her ability-stop it! Please, stop! This talented young lady has the chords that could sing Detroit out of it's murky Detroit corridors. Her voice is strong enough to ambassador the gap between the Negro spiritual and the Second Coming while frolicking through Hiphop and blazing through the pop charts. We recognize the echo of greatness, being natural critics and all. We know the difference between a thoroughbred, a hybrid, and something with foreign parts under the hood. It is exactly the reason that so many of us keep checking for her. However, I gotta tell you, the Renaissance State of Mind sounds like a nail hitting a coffin. My cradled forehead is turned away with embarrassment.

In closing, Detroiters, and Detroit-ions alike have simply been beaten to a pulp with embarrassing headlines, crooked politics, swagger assassination attempts, and spooked out by hot, affiliated, "ill" talent dying young. Many are afraid that success will cost  their lives, to illiterate to know the difference between living and surviving. Gripping to the "underground" as if she ever believed them. Focused on rap  instead of the map. Willing to negotiate the legacy of wisdom for our children's sake for a head job from a yes-man on the seats of a Charger. Robbing our youth of valuable information at the apex of the dawn of a new age.

Here's a thought--- Before you step outta the front yard be clear about whether you are the kinda cat to limbo with Lucifer in his Louie loafers or a faulty meow willing to sell the powdered milk from Detroit's flaccid breasts. Either way, do your homework, read more, spend some real money, get acquainted with gratitude. I bet you a Grammy you'll find better things to do with your gifts than jacking someone else's style.

Before you get mad and blow my sh!t up on the web, watch the videos, read it again -and grab a dictionary.

========================================

real spit Jaemurd.  True Indeed.  And unfortunately, in a world where people are told when to eat, sleep, shyt, fuk, and

what music to listen to

its hard to find objective, genuine listeners.   But moreso biproducts of mind manipulation is what runs rampant.

the music media network, the DJs, the magazines, the labels,  often pre-select  who will be "HOT" to the masses.   They are spoon-fed their mainstream artist.

and being unaware of the power and danger in sound, and how what goes in the ears effects the mind,  not being aware of this is unfortunately the characteristic of the sheep   aka  the 80% public

with that said, there are a lot of underground or regional artists who are much better than than the celebrated individuals on the tv screen and who stock the shelves of the music stores.  always been that way.   But the sheep get what they want.

one day, they will realize the power and influence they hold individually, yet collectively.... or then again, maybe not.

My advice for any artist who truly loves what he is doing and the loves the people he intends to affect by what he is doing is simply....to KEEP DOING IT!

and if you dont have no LOVE for it. And you just chasing a dollar at the youths destruction.  ANd you are fully aware yet apathatic to this...

there should be a bullet wit your name it....that is all.

lets take NAS for example.

he could easily be what his counterparts are.

He often, influenced their style... yet his love for his people and courage to go against the grain, is what influences his music.

rather or not you like his music, you must respect dude as an artist.   Because he often has more respect for you the listener,  than you have for yourself.

I think Unititled will later be yielded as a classic and "ontime" album for the times...  but it isnt time for the masses to be aware yet.

America, Testify, Sly Fox, We're Not Alone, etc etc

do you see the love for you the listener, that goes into these cuts?

I dont even have to mention any of his other albums.  There is arguably at least 1 classic song on each of his efforts.

Rakim is another 1 who loves the people he gives his music to.   Check out Seventh Seal... theres a message there intended for you, Black Man/Woman

ok, im done rambling

INTERESTING DEBATE...

THE FUNNY THING IS I GREW UP HAVING IT ALL THE TIME

I'M FROM NY, BUT GREW UP IN THE SOUTH..

I HATED MOST SOUTHERN RAPPERS, NOT TO LUMP UP IN ONE BIG PILE. WHAT I MEAN IS I HATED BOOTY SHAKE/MIAMI BASS RAPPERS

WHICH IN TURN MADE ME HATE ATLANTA RAPPERS. WHO HAD NOT YET MADE A SOUND FOR THEMSELVES TIL OUTKAST CAME.

EVEN IN THAT HATED GENRE, I COULD STILL FIND MC'S IN THERE THAT I COULD SAY CAN RAP TO A DEGREE

NOW BACK TO ATLANTA, WHEN OUTKAST CAME IT GAVE ATLANTA A SOUND, BEFORE THAT YOU HAD JERMAINE DUPRI COPYING NAUGHTY BY NATURE OR SNOOP, DALLAS AUSTIN EXPERIMENTING WITH HIP HOP BUT NOT REALLY CRAFTING A ATLANTA SOUND

WHEN I SAY SOUND, I MEAN SOMETHING THAT REPRESENTS THE CULTURE OF THE CITY..

THE GROUPS THAT WERE BIG IN THE CITY LIKE KILO, THE HARD BOYZ, RAHEEM THE DREAM, MC SHY D THE BIG OOOMP CAMP, WERE DOING IT, BUT FOR THE MOST PART THEY CRAFTED THEY MUSIC OFF THE MIAMI SOUND...NOT TO MENTION THEY DIDN'T GO NATIONWIDE

WHEN OUTKAST CAME & WENT NATIONWIDE. THEY SOUND WAS MORE SOUTHERN AS A WHOLE AS OPPOSE TO JUST ATLANTA

AS THE MIAMI SOUND DIED A SLOW DEATH ON THE NATIONWIDE SCENE...

ATLANTA TOOK IT & REBIRTH IT A SENSE..

WIT LIL JOHN, YING YANG..THE CRUNK MOVEMENT, WHICH GAVE BIRTH TO SNAP, D4L, WHICH GAVE US SHAWTY LO ....

I SAY ALL THAT TO SAY THIS WACK ELEMENT HAS ALWAYS BEEN THERE, BUT ONE MANS TRASH IS ANOTHER MANS TREASURE..

I RESPECT IT FOR WHAT IT IS...ATLANTA IS A COLLEGE TOWN, KIDS WHO WANNA PARTY, IF YOU MAKING MUSIC FOR THAT CROWD THEN MORE POWER TO YOU..

THE ONLY THING THAT BOTHER ME IS WHEN THEY TAKE IT OUT THE CLUB. TRY TO SLOW IT DOWN & JUST BE RAPPING, WHEN THATS NOT YA THING..

THESE RAPPERS NEED TO LEARN THEY PLACES AGAIN..
2 LIVE CREW,2 SHORT & THEM OTHER CATS DIDN'T THINK THEY WERE LYRICAL GIANTS. THEY MADE A CERTAIN TYPE OF MUSIC & PLAYED THEY POSITION

All I'm saying is it's no point making quote on quote real hip hop and nobody but a few people are feeling it

Why do you think WAYNE does that whiney singy songy rap ? Because it diverts attention away from having substance

Why do you think EMINEM talks about killing his BABYMOTHERS , HIS MOMMA ? Why do you think he uses them funny accents and voices ? why do you think he pulled a prank with a man sitting on his face and the award show BECAUSE some people find it funny "not me" and it diverts from having any substance

Why do you think Plies talks Thug s**twhen he clearly ain't no REAL GOON ? HE does it cos needs a image to divert from his lack of hiphop knowledge and skill

I could go on but hopefully you get the point

IN MY IDEAL WORLD

Pharoahe Monch
MF Doom
Rexx
Royce 5 9
Nas
Jasiri X
Mr Lif
Sean Price

would get as much shine as all the artists you and i might think are garbage

Probably not, but you can sell cd's in the thousands as a independent artist and make more money than a artist on a major label though. The more units you sell, that goes in your pocket if you independent.

@Gorgan that's a interesting question cuz really what is underground and commercial changes. At one point grimey n***as with lyrics was commercial then it became underground.Street/drug culture was underground and became commercial.gangsta music was underground and became commercial.Truthfully I was never concerned with going platinum.I just want to be able to live off my art.I'm not against commercial music.I just want ppl to know the basics of rapping.these dudes don't even know the fundamentals.I'm not closed minded.I will listen to Jeezy then throw on Budden or Royce.I think there has to be a time when lyricism comes back around at least I hope so.Not just for me but,for that 16 year old who's dope who may never get any shot.wack dudes always sold but,it was understood that they didn't rep our culture now it's like wack dudes are the norm and they are the forefront of the game.I just don't undrstand what happened to this beautiful culture.if marketed right anything can sale.if they gave ppl a chance

Dudes like Cube worked out a good independent situation for himself on "Laugh Now Cry Later"

But the bottom line most indies these days are not going all out on distribution

And basically the cats on the major labels would be walking out on there deals if they could stack like that on a indie

---------------------------------------------------------------

To answer my own question

Can you sell multiple platinum and still be "underground" ?

YOU CAN DO WHATEVER THE f**k YOU LIKE ... JUST DO YOU

The suits in the boardroom aren't the ones hitting the pads writing rhymes ,
There not spending hours on the mpc or the computer making beats and mixing down tracks ,
There not putting three hour shifts in a day on the SL1210 or the Serato to get there cuts and scratches tight

DON'T GIVE YOUR POWER AWAY

The worst thing that happened to Hip Hop is all the mainstream exposure because a lot of "underground" dudes managed to get a hit or a few hits BUT THEY FORGOT THERE CORE AUDIENCE AND GOT LOST IN THE MIX

If you forget the foundation that your built on and neglect that . YOU BETTER BE WARY IN CASE YOU NEED THAT SUPPORT AGAIN

HERE IS SOME REASONS  Why Arab Money might get in BEFORE dudes who got skills

1 Labels don't want to many dudes who know to much about the game . Because you will already have set agenda of how you should put out your music

Someone like Arab is going to do anything the label tells him

Arab will not attempt or be allowed to make complex hip hop , he will have a ghost writer giving him a catchy singy song hook UNFORTUNATELY TODAY THAT'S ALL YOU NEED

MAJOR LABELS , don't generally like skilled lyricists , with deep messages , and educated metaphors , Because they will not be opened to ghost writers under any circumstance

Because rap puts an emphasis on realness and authenticity forget that major labels have dealt with singers way before mc's and singers always do covers and MOST HAVE WRITERS OR CO WRITERS
This is another reason Majors will take a cat like Arab before A REAL MC . Because Arab has no concept of what a real emcee should do

Someone who has been battling , spitting in cyphers , grinding to put out there own material and vids , learning there craft for years WILL BE IN CONFLICT with anyone telling them how to present there music to the world

SO TRUE... THATS THE PROBLEM... NO IS TRYING TO MAKE MUSIC FOR THE CORE HIP HOP CROWD...

THE ONES WHO LIKE RAP FOR RAP..

MOST CATS ARE INFLUENCE BY RAPPERS IMAGES THAN THEY MUSIC..

HE RICH, HE THUGGED OUT, HE A DRUG DEALER, HE BUST HIS GUN...

THEY ARE TAUGHT TO FOCUS ON JAY Z DRUG REFERENCES MORE SO THAN HIS WORDPLAY & FLOW

THE s**tTHE RECORD COMPANY PROMOTE, SO THEY MAKE FLUFF MUSIC...

EVERYBODY TRYING TO BE A STAR.. NOT A ARTIST IN THE TRUE SENSE OF THE WORD..

THATS THE REASON ALBUM STARTED GETTING WEAKER I THINK..

TOO MANY TRYING TO REACH TOO MUCH, TOO OFTEN, TOO MANY RADIO FRIENDLY SONGS ON HARDCORE MC'S ALBUM INSTEAD OF STICKING TO THE REASONS THEY GOT HERE..

@ Muthadon - Ok so I finally decided to listen to the song you have been promoting for what seems like forever on AHH and honestly I wasn't feeling it. Be clear I am not calling it wack it's just not aurally pleasing to me at all, the production value leaves a lot to be desired, you seem to be doing more yelling than actually spitting on the mic and your lyrics ("the bible in my left hand, glock in my right") are just all over the place, I mean are you a gangster or a preacher? From the lyrics I could actually make out and mind you I'm listening through some premium KRK studio monitors, you're talking about the same thing every other alleged gun-toting, pseudo-gangter-I got-haters-and-enemies rapper is talking about, I definitely didn't hear anything I would consider unique. Beyond that the video or really your picture slideshow is just subpar, just a bunch of random pics (bullets, Jesus on the cross, your boy posing with a bottle of Seagrams, you wearing the same hat just different angles) so if you're really as serious about this music thing why not put out a better quality video, something that people will actually want to watch? For months you have been promoting this video/song on AHH a site that gets thousands of hits a day and  you want people to view it on Youtube yet it's only been viewed 319 times, shouldn't that tell you something?

Now I have read every single one of your comments in this thread and right from the start you claim ("n***as typing subliminal s**ton these threads about me") but if the shots are subliminal how do you know they are talking about you? Then you go into your other rants ("ALL YOU RAP n***as SUCK ASS!!!!!!!! LIKE I SAID MUTHAFUCKAS !!!!!BOTH SIDES OF THE FENCE - COMING SOON!!!!!!!!!LOVE OR HATE IT OR LOVE IT AND HATE IT!!!!!!!!!!
f**k ALL THESE COCK SUCKAS!!!!!!!!!!!!") but you're not mad...umm are you sure about that? Who are the cock suckas you're referring to? Then you go on and attempt to put down those that are making mainstream music and say ("THESE n***as JUST GAVE UP ON THEY OWN CRAFT,THEY STOP CARING ABOUT THE MUSIC,IT DOESN'T MATTER WHAT YOU RAP ABOUT,JUST BE THE BEST AT WHAT YOU DO"), well looking at your video can you honestly say that was the best you could do, seriously? Then in closing you said ("WHEN I RELEASE MY ALBUM ON ITUNES IT'S A WHOLE NEW BALLGAME, IF THEY LIKE IT, THEN THEY'LL LOVE IT.....AND IF THEY DON'T LIKE IT,,THEN I GUESS THEY  WON'T LIKE IT, I'M NOT LOSING ANY SLEEP"). Now let's be real, so far nobody is checking for your single on Youtube, now you're talking about it will be a whole new ballgame when you release your CD on Itunes but if people don't like it you won't lose any sleep, well wouldn't that make you just like that artists you claim have stopped caring about their craft? If after you've put in all your time, hard work and money for your music and nobody downloads it from Itunes, if you really care about your music why wouldn't you lose sleep? Why wouldn't you take a moment to reassess your situation and improve your music so people will actually support it, isn't that the point of putting on Itunes? My point is simple, you are trying to develop an audience so if you're really in this for the long haul you can't possibly front like the people's opinion of your music, videos and overall image doesn't matter otherwise what are you trying to do?

Look you can take this however you want it but I would strongly suggest you go back to the drawing board and start with doing that video all over again from scratch. Treat your career like you really care about it and develop an actual video with a concept because seriously my 7-year-old nephew could put a damn picture slideshow together.
