Well, this is definitely a breath of fresh air if nothing else!

I can't necessarily say that I agree with all his picks...I think Larry Smith and Rick Rubin are somewhat the same and reiterats the point he was trying to make. But his picks are definitely a testament to his own talent because each of them are very talented and are in a lane of their own. Just like Premo is.

Premo is definitely one of the GOATs of hip hop production, if not THE GOAT.

I was listening to some of Preemo's early Gangstarr stuff; alot of the samples he was using are now well known within the hip hop community. But at that time, we were like 'WOW'. He came from the perspective that if the East didn't sample James Brown so much back in the day they wouldn't have that signature sound
[ a sound they seem to have abandoned if you listen to mainstream hip hop today ]

Ha came from the perspective that if the West didn't come at it from the George Clinton P Funk , Psycodelic , More Bounce To The Ounce angle with groups like Digital Underground
[ although EPMD CAME WITH IT FIRST ]
They too wouldn't have had that signature sound that put them on the map

Alot of up-and-coming producers dont have the means to get a Roland, Triton, or Yamaha keyboard. Therefore, they're forced to use what they have available. All I had was Fuityloops, but I made whatever was in my mind or just feeling at the moment. No disrepect, but I cant tell the difference between a Play and Skillz, Cool N Dre, or a Dream beat!

I say a comment the other day that some dude who was making comparisons to Preemo & Dr. Dre and no disrespect to Dr. Dre at all because the man is so damn gifted & talented but real talk people, even though Preemo hasn't signed an Eminem nor has the bucks that Dre has, magnitude of respect that everyone has in the game for Preemo is sickening! Not to many people know that he's done work outside of hip hop to transcend his game to another level like (and i can't believe i'm mentioning them) Britney Spears, Justin Timberlake, Gwen Stefani, Christina Aguerla (screw it if i spelt it wrong) but just to name a few that this man has helped.

Fact,timbaland has sampled from quite a few different people,one song I can think of that has a sample that he got sued for and lost was big pimpin.

Also anyone who uses Korg, Yamaha,Roland or any of these computer based programs use samples.

All the sounds that are in these keyboards are all sampled from the real instruments.True it's not the same as a 1 or 2 bar loop taken from a record, but still its a sample & all these guys you named use these products.

Quincy Jones has over 50 years of experience in the entertainment industry, you clearly know nothing about music if you think a man who holds the record for the most Grammy nominations at 79, is a musician, composer, director, producer, bandleader and the first black man to ever be nominated for an Academy Award is garbage you are completely lost and you should be embarrassed to even participate in a conversation about music because you're ill-equipped. Quincy Jones is a producer's producer, a director's director and a composer's composer. You can't say that about anybody alive in hip hop today, nobody that even comes close to what Q has done and he's still working. James Brown and George Clinton are also garbage? Dr. Dre and the west coast funk as we know it doesn't exist without George Clinton and the Parliament sound, you can't possibly be this stupid. Preemo's list is a reflection of his influences and proof of how wide his musical tastes are and clearly that just makes some people uncomfortable because they can't fathom why Quincy Jones is there and not Dr. Dre or James Brown instead of himself. The real truth is a guy like Quincy is in another stratosphere in terms of where he has taken his music and he's laid out a pattern that producers like the Rza and Pete Rock are following in terms of composing film scores and producing other genres like Preemo. As far as mutual respect among each other as producers the proof speaks for itself, Rza and George Clinton have worked together, in '65 Quincy did a jazz cover of one of James Brown's biggest hits Papa's Got a Brand New Bag so the respect is there. It's just unfortunate that same level of respect and historical acknowledgment is so easily ignored today.

DJ Premeir, the hip-hop producer that ever did it, regardless of sales, spins, labels and all the other variables you want to throw in there. I have absolutely no problem with his list. Let's remember, this dude just turned 43, I believe, so he has been around longer than Hip-Hop itself. His foundation and upbringing was based on REAL music. Anybody frontin' on Quincy Jones, George Clinton and especially James Brown either are too young to know better, too ignorant to know better, don't know shit about music or all three. It's crazy that Rick Rubin's didn't start ringin' bells with this generation until 99 Problems. Dude beeen a problem. And Larry Smith gave you one of the gulliest Hip-Hop joints of all-time (Run-DMC's Rock Box) and one of the smoothest (Whodini's Friends). Basically, Preme knows what time it is. One final thought: why are you all even acknowledging Rmoney?
