Tip is mad underated and thats a name you don't hear unless your talkin to people who really know they're stuff, bomb squad as well them dudes changed the things in terms of production, cats might have evolved since then but every modern day producer uses the foundation that the bombsquad built. Yea it really would be hard to come up with a solid top 5 producer list. I feel no list is complete without J dilla tho. To me Dre is the illist becouse "The Chronic" changed the game. Dre added Melody to the mix. Just Blaze and Kayne run the new school but I really feel Just is a better producer. "You Don't Know" off the Blue Print is one of my fav Beats.

Much respect on this list. Just Blaze is probably the most underated producers because Timbaland and Dre get all the props and, rightfully so, but Blaze switches his styles up. The best Just Blaze production to me is "Bread and Butter"!! That Beanie Sigel joint! OMG, I had everyone listen to that shyt when I first heard it and not one person could say that it wasnt hot. Its not easy to get people who doesnt know anything about production to appreciate it and overlook the song but that was a beat where the production was undeniable and thats what all the great producers accomplish. Like we know Michael Jackson was the best but the "Dont Stop Til' You Get Enough" beat was just crazy and everyone still knows it! LMAO...Ahhh man I love it when we get into these real hip hop dicussions!

I guess it depends on what you grew up listening to. You seem like an East Coast cat. Me being from L.A., I was never big on AZ, Big L, Group Home and the rest of your list. Dre out West is equivalent to Premier out East. In my opinion Dre is the better producer. This debate will go on and on...

Premier has a track with Christina Aguilera but Dre has a tracks with Gwen Stefani so they're both even pop wise.

i like the list (to an extent) but you got to have premo like everyone has mentioned, but what about havoc from mobb deep, rockwilder, dj scratch, alchemist, & even swizz beatz to a certain degree.

i think these cats laid it down for at least over 15yrs & deserve some kind of recognition as well. they aint no Dr. Dre but you cant tell me havoc's quiet storm or shook ones wasn't ya'll favorite beats. for crying out loud they used the shook ones beat in 8 mile during the end of the movie to do the battle scene, LMAO. @ Just Blaze revising Hip Hop history!!! NWA didn't form until 1988, and I'm pretty certain that Fuck The Police didn't drop until 1988/9. In 1986, Dre was still a member of The Wrecking Crew with Lonzo, Yella, and them!!! Was surprised that Just Blaze didn't pick Primo, Kanye or Timbaland (given his affiliation with Jay), but this was a very nice list all the same.

I dunno if you can say Dre is the number 1 super producer in the West. He's the most known, yes but Quik, Terrance Martin, Brotha Lynch, Alchemist, DJ Pooh (just to name a few) are all beasts in their own rights. Don't get me wrong. I give Dre his props. He has/still is put it down for a long time, but I think Quik will put him under the table any day of the week.
