Setting the standard in Hip-Hop is not a right, it is a privilege. It is one that is not bestowed upon everyone. You have to have the drive, the talent and most importantly you have to earn it. The latter is a challenge that not many rappers are up for. Derty Den however already has the drive and the talent so earning it… Piece of cake.
His grind can be heard up the East coast with songs like "Poppin'" and "Reality." Den is already being recognized overseas for his talent and unique rapping abilities. Having garnered love and adoration from fans in Europe what’s next for Den? The U.S.A. Looks like Den already is a star and we just have to catch up.
AllHipHop.com: How did you get involved with Getting It Together Records?
Derty Den: Actually, I met Rikers through City Sid, but at the same time we are all from the same area of N.C. so that made it a lot easier for us to work together because they understood where I was coming and I understood which direction they were headed.
AllHipHop.com: Tell me about your relationship with your manager Trent.
Derty Den: Well, my relationship with Trent is very cool he like my big brother and keep me focused we learn a lot from each other its easy because we from the same hood (MLK ENFIELD).
AllHipHop.com: You did a lot of work on your own getting your product out there. Why did you feel the need to go in that direction?
Derty Den: I was looking at the big picture I already had a crazy street buzz and my material was out of this world... [laughs] I looked at it like this linking up with GIT Records would put my career in the right direction and take it to the next level.
AllHipHop.com: How did you initially get into rap and why?
Derty Den: At first I just was getting money and hanging out wit the hood superstars getting in the clubs free it started to get interesting to me then I found out I was that nice so I picked up a pen and I got hooked while falling in love with it. I started to learn the business side of it which I'm still learning now.
AllHipHop.com: What was it like opening up for Young Jeezy and Young Buck?
Derty Den: I have opened up for a lot of people but Buck and Jeezy stood out to me. It was the energy that their fans brought with them and I had a chance to soak in some of that energy. It was so crazy and it’s a feeling that everybody should experience at least once in their life time [laughs].
AllHipHop.com: You are getting radio play in Europe and that is rare for an artist from the States who has not first gone into mainstream music in the U.S.A. to accomplish. How did that come into play for you?
Derty Den: GIT we international baby...(laughs) They opened the international door open and the fans are taking me in like I'm one of their own overseas they still love good music so its a walk in the park for a artist like DERTY DEN...YA DIG
AllHipHop.com: You have also been selected for Next To Blow in France and been featured in Europe's largest Hip-Hop magazine. Tell me about that experience.
Derty Den: Now that is a feeling that is out of this world because I still feel like a fan in the game I started out making music to impress my crew and get girls and for to be considered the next to blow is a hell of a feeling if u know what I mean
AllHipHop.com: Petey Pablo was one of the last big acts to come out of the Carolinas. Do you have any pressure right now to represent for the state?
Derty Den: No not at all cause Petey set the standard. No matter what nobody when that dude came out with raise up everybody and they mother was twisting they shirt around like a helicopter. He came with so much energy and originally he showed the next man what to do and what I got out of it. He set the standard so my job is to break the standard do it bigger and the person after me should be able to do it better than me ....It’s gone be very hard though...(laughs)
AllHipHop.com: What projects are you working on right now?
Derty Den: Heat Wave the mix tape is out right now hosted by Don Cannon u can download it from www.myspaqce.com/dirtydengit. Also I am the 2008 UMA Best Southern Rapper.
