Recently, some urban radio listeners thought they tuned to the wrong dial when they heard Lil Wayne gracing a rock song called “Let It Rock.”

Thanks to Weezy’s embracing of the Rock genre, Rap-Rock Mash ups are gaining popularity again. To change the pace of the game, Ca$h Money  took Weezy’s lead by signing Kevin Rudolf to their Ca$h Money Records label.

No stranger to working with pop and Hip-Hop artists, Rudolf has worked with the likes of Nelly Furtado, Lil’ Kim, and Timbaland earning co-producing and collaborative credits in his career.

Rudolf’s album In The City is slated for a November 25th release, armed with collaborations such as Rick Ross, Nas, and of course, Lil Wayne. After gaining momentum hitting #5 on BillBoard’s Top 100, we decided to find out Kevin Rudolf’s Top 5 Rap-Rock Mash-Ups.

5.) Run DMC & Aerosmith – “Walk This Way”

Walk This Way - Aerosmith & Run DMC

"I remember as a kid when they would still play videos on MTV, they would throw that one in even way after the fact. I just remember as a guitar player wanting to learn how to play the guitar and seeing Joe Perry break down the wall with his guitar. I thought I would definitely get one of those."

4.) Jay-Z & Linkin Park –“Numb/Encore”

Numb/Encore - Linkin Park & JayZ

"I think it’s more like Rock than Hip-Hop."

3.) Public Enemy & Anthrax—“Bring The Noise”

Bring The Noise - Anthrax and Public Enemy

"I was a little metal head when I was a kid. I was a guitar player, so I was into anything like that. Then Public Enemy was in it...that was actually crazy."

2.) Kevin Rudolf & Lil Wayne—“Let It Rock”

Let It Rock - Kevin Rudolf ft. Lil Wayne

"I heard this song that’s really incredible called “Let It Rock” with Lil Wayne on it.  I don’t think there’s anything out there like that. [laughs]"

1.) Jay-Z – “99 Problems”

99 Problems - Jay-Z

"Even though it’s not a rock band with Jay-Z, it’s a rock record with Jay-Z. This would be my Number 1 because it’s one of my favorite Jay-Z records. It’s a Rick Rubin record."

Kevin Rudolf is as far away from rock music than Nat King Cole is to gangsta rap. Kevin Rudolf is pretty much Britny Spears without blonde hair and a chest. I wouldn't confuse NSYNC with hip hop just cause there's a beat behind it. This shit is pop fluff for teenagers.

i dunno if you all download music off the net but my personal favorite collaboration between 2 different worlds is Saul Williams album The Inevitable Rise & Liberation Of Niggy Tardust produced by Trent Reznor of Nine Inch Nails. He does dark ass industrial beats so it was kinda a no brainer. Not every song is on point but its worth hearing. 99 Problems is great, without Walk This Way & Bring The Noize we wouldn't have this natural progression. Still Kevin Rudolf is lame pop music. NOT ROCK!

now wayne is getting credit for the revival of the rock/rap mashup? ok. I dont think this is a fad though, because it never went anywhere. this def is  a permanent part of hip hop. hip hop has always used all elements of music. rock just happens to be a commercially viable product. so no, i dont agree with the notion that wayne has revived anything. just working with somebody doesnt shift the music game. i'd say somebody like Timbaland should be giving a lil more credit here. also, put onyx and biohazard in this mix.

Kevin rudolf or whatever they call him is not rock.. I hear a little techno and keyboards going off with a guitar in the background.. I've heard real rock and this shouldn't be classified as rock.. Wayne needs to stop walking around with guitars as well like he can actually play and set the stage on fire with a solo.. It's a good concept trying to mix the two, but it hasn't been done well in a while!

This whole I'ma Roc star thing is a fad....just like a few yrs ago it was I'ma hustla'...or when it was "I'm grown and Sexy".

The core elements of all those still exist but the oversaturation of it is fades with time.

white tees to Jerseys to button-ups to blazers to thermals to tight shirts with skulls......

All the while the music gets less and less creative.

ok song, but who was that black guy with dreads? he looks kinda familiar.....

but rock incorporates all diferent instruments as well as hip hop. a instrument shouldnt just be limited to a certain genre. i love the sound of guitar on any rap or hip hop song except party like a rock star. rock and hip are important to each other.  rockers rap all the damn time and rappers try to rock so hard it aint funny. i love all types of music, but am a serious rock/metal/hip hop fan. so when serj from system of a down dos a song with naw thats when ill really be diggin  mashups...

and that jay-z linkin park mashup cd was one of the best ive heard. it was extremely slept on

Good for Cash Money. Way to be cutting edge. In this economy, we have to diversify. Good for them. I am from New Orleans originally and I am happy for them. Gives me inspiration.
